The Jade Wizard’s Warband

In addition to the Bidowers and some Medieval Muslims, I finished up a second lot of figures over the long weekend…

As with the Golden Wizard’s Warband that I finished up last week, I picked up an nearly identical lot of soldiers to paint up in greens for the Jade Wizards of Frostgrave!

(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version):

The entire warband. Or I should say; the wizards and a bunch of options for their warband – this lot wouldn’t (indeed COULDN’T) be fielded all together – there are just too many of them!

The Wizards. I painted these in January. I am currently using these in a new Frostgrave Campaign with the family. The Wizard, a Soothsayer (on the left) is from Hasslefree Miniatures. Her name is Alvareda. Her Apprentice, Jonquil, is from Reaper Miniatures.

Knight (Sword, Shield, Mail Armour) and Templar (Two Handed Sword, Mail Armour). Both are from Black Tree Design. I wasn't feeling quite as inspired when it came to deciding on devices for this warband... What to use for a Soothsayer? I thought Crystal Ball - how would that look on a shield? basically a single silver (white) circle on a green field? ultimately I went with a simple crescent.

Two Infantry men (“Leather” Armour and Two-Handed Weapon) and two Men-at-Arms (Sword, Ahield and “Leather” Armour) – also from Black Tree Design.

Two Crossbowmen and two Archers – also from Black Tree Design.

These are not newly painted figures but I thought I’d include them – these are the Soldier the warband started out with. From left to right: Lars the Archer and his brother Darragh and his other brother Darragh (both Men-at-Arms), four thieves; Wil, Jenny, Alfonso and Cerebus the Aardvark, and Spike the Dog.

In our most recent game, other brother Darragh was killed by The Boy’s Lizards (Lars and Darragh have vowed revenge!) I think before the game though, Alvareda is going to spend some of that hard earned gold and buy them some new fancy duds (they will be replaced by some of the guys in green above). I may replace Alfonso with an archer (or just say Alvareda bought him a bow and armour and have a “new” Archer named Alfonso…).

Cerebus the Earth-Pig-Born was seriously wounded and would have to miss a game… part of me wants to let him go – he is a wanderer – but part of me loves the figure (and the idea that Cerebus would be wandering around Frostgrave in the employ of one of my wizards…). I might just “pay for some extensive healing” (i.e. pay to “hire” a “new” thief and just put him back on the roster).

Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of the Jade Wizards of Frostgrave!

Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:

Hard to say… I have a bunch more figures nearly done… I’d like to get in some more games of Frostgrave and I’d really like to try out  En Garde! at some point and have another go at Lion Rampant or Dragon Rampant… There will also be some terrain building this week…

    1. Ah, is that where it's from? Runequest? I thought it was a knock off of Dave Sim's Cerebus.
      Thanks!
