Killa Kans and the Game of Apocalypse that Never Was...

A couple weeks ago I decided to help Finnegan get some of his miniatures painted. I was experimenting with coloured primers and washes as well as the new Contrast paints from Games Workshop. I ended up knocking off one of his Killa Kans in a evening - while working on a number of other things as well - and thought "Well this is easy, I'll show him how I did this on one of the other ones, while he paints the third... and boom - the unit will be done!"

But I didn't get to that until a few weeks later...

Boom! Unit of Killa Kans complete... So, I basically ended up painting two of these for him, and he painted one... but, whatevs, they're done and we can play with them... (Can you guess which two I painted and which one Finnegan painted!?)

So I figured it was time we set up an Apocalypse game with his Orks!!

All last week we kept saying we should play a game. We finally got a game set up, maybe Thursday, but didn't end up having time that day.... or... Friday... and by Saturday, well, I needed to put everything away, because it was time to tear the big table apart and get on with the basement renovations...

I was going to play my Guaiacan Commandoes...

We'd set up ANOTHER pincer attack scenario - Finnegan had decided on it. Since I had more Power Level and was attacking, he thought it would be interesting if the Guaiacan Commandoes had surrounded a group or Orks in the jungle and moved in to annihilate them...

#2 Troop and supporting Scout Sentinels.

All tha Orks!

#3 Troop and elements of #5 Support Troop.

#3 Troop  and the Orks

Ratling and Guiacan Sniper Details and the Veteran Section.

Moar Orks...

Who is THIS lurking in the jungle!?

I was pretty disappointed that we didn't get to play it out... Ah, well... on to other things. Hopefully we'll set this up again in the fall when the renos are done and play it out!!

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

All sorts of stuff on the workbench these days... Necromunda, Eldar, Imperial Guard, Knights, etc...

Could be any of those...

    1. Thanks Bob! This isn't going to be nearly as fancy as the kitchen or anything. The purpose is just to make the room useable again (as it really hasn't been since the bit upstairs renovation) and have some better shelving and lighting down there..

  2. Best laid plans. You'll get him next time ;)

  3. I'm going to guess that the middle one was painted by Finn, based on a slight difference in the colours. But that's a guess, they all look really good!

    1. It was! He didn't do as heavy of a wash on anything - tended to try and spread the wash around like paint, rather than leave it and let it pool in the recesses.

    2. Cool! I guessed the same if only because it seems to have a lighter overall shade and it has lighter highlight colours.

  4. I guessed the middle one, too, just on the basis that it did look slightly different from the other 2. If it weren't for that clue I would have no idea. And I agree they all look good, and the differences are not major. Besides, being orks, variations are good.

    1. Well that's it - orks are very forgiving for a starting hobbyist - paint however you like they're SUPPOSED to be a mess.

      Same goes for Zombies.

I was just trying to make these look like a dirty rusty mess.

  5. Great looking killa Kans! Nice set up for a game but it's one of those things I guess, good luck with the renovations,I hope you still have time to paint!
    Best Iain

    1. Oh, just like some people always have room for Jello, I always manage to find time to paint!

      Thanks!
