RPGaDAY2025 - Day One - Patron

 

There's a whole story behind her... but it's just before midnight and I have neither the time nor energy to type that out... Needless to say, she is a patron... of sorts... in an RPG campaign I am currently running..

The Story behind the picture.

As I mentioned, I've started a new role-playing campaign. We are using Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound and the Champions of Death supplement - the the players are all vampires and their undead and mortal servants.

The campaign takes place during the events of the novel Neferata: Dominion of Bone. 

The player characters are a group of vampires that all owe allegiance to the Court of Blood and, ostensibly. serve Neferata, Mortarch of Blood. They originally held titles and land in Neferatia, but during Age of Chaos they lost their lands to Khornate Horde. For a time they lived as refugees in Nulhamia as guests of other vampire lords, but quickly wore out their welcome and were getting pressured more and more to go and take back their ancestral lands! 

Eventually they were given leave to flee to Ulgu, Realm of Shadow, convincing Neferata that they would go there to conquer new lands and raise an army to take back their lands in Shyish. 

Once in Ulgu, they found an old dilapidated keep on Cape Tenerax, near Misthaven, built during the Age of Myth, but long since abandoned by its original holders and currently inhabited by a small pack of  skaven. They cleared the skaven out and some minimal repairs were made to make it somewhat livable and moderately defensible. It is a rather shabby looking place that most passersby would still think abandoned - or HAUNTED - as many in the region do! 

They have done little else in the centuries that have passed. 

The campaign is called: 

What We Do in the Realm of Shadows. 

The Character above is Lady Mereneth, Neferata’s Mistress of Spies. The player characters had a brief encounter with her during Session Zero, to set the stage and get things going. She just appeared in the room during one of the groups house meetings, scaring the (un)life out of them, and informs them that Neferata has called her banners and expects them to march with their armies back to Shyish and join the assault on Angaria to eject the followers of Khorne that have squatted on their lands for too long! 

The Mistress of Spies should be a pretty terrifying character to encounter, but I tried to make her out to be a little like Kristen Schall's character from What We Do in the Shadows (the TV series). 

I always thought it would be fun to run a campaign that takes place during the events of.. some other story... occasionally blundering into scenes of the story, like in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Not that anyone playing has read the story to know when they've actually stepped into a scene of the other story and see how they affect the outcome... or not...?

I'll probably post some more when (if?) we ever get started. The first session was supposed to be last week and it was cancelled... seems like this week may be cancelled again too... maybe next week...? 

(I was also planning to run the game for a second group of friends online, but that group hasn't managed to even make characters... so...)
