Age of Sigmar - SoulBlight Gravelords

I kind of fell bass-ackwards into this army. I bought Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - which basically included a starter army for the Soulblight Gravelords right there?! buying more miniatures for the Night Wars expansion for Cursed City will just bring that up more...

And then there was Age of Sigmar, 4th Edition, with its Spearhead game... Of course I needed to get a Spearhead army for that?!

Also undead make for great adversaries in role-playing games...

Painted (so far...)

The force so far...

(minus a few of the latest vampires.. and Torgilius... )

Heroes

Cado Ezechiar, the Hollow King - picked up and painted because I really enjoyed listening to the audiobooks! Will I ever use him as a leader for a Soulblight army? There was a time in his histroy that he did lead armies against the forces of Chaos!

Once I have ALL the stuff done for Cursed City, I'll have far more Heroes than I could ever use in one army...

Radukar the Wolf - came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Lady Annika, the Thirsting Blade

Picked up to use in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars!

Kritza the Rat Prince

Picked up to use in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars!

Carmilla Du Sang, Vampire Lord

Came with the Soulblight Gravelords Speahead army, but picked up to use as Carmilla Du Sang in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars!

Watch Captain Halgrim - came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Gorslav the Gravekeeper - came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Torgilius the Chamberlain - came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Sir Renmold of Sylum Field - Grave Guard/Wight King

This is Finnegan's character for a Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound  using the Champions of Death book that I'm calling What We do in the Realm of Shadows.

The Model is a converted Wight King - I took the original head/helmet/crown off and replaced it with a ridiculous Chaos Knight's helmet - with a bonus plume from a Hedonite of Slaanesh!

You can read more about it here:

Sir Renmold of Sylum Field

Wight King - older metal model!

Vlad and Isabella Von Carstien - Classic Metal Warhammer Fantasy models!

(Or they could be used as two generic Vampire Lords - though the miniatures are named characters, there are no actual rules of Vlad and Isabella in Age of Sigmar! I think they died in the Old World and weren't reborn in Age of Sigmar...?)

Units

Deathrattle Skeletons - these are the ones that came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Deadwalker Zombies - from Warhammer Quest: Cursed City

(Technically, I need TEN MORE as they are fielded in units of twenty... unfortunately they are only SOLD in units of twenty... Luckily I was able to split a box with my friend Orion who ALSO has Cursed City and is also using the miniatures as part of her Soulblight Gravelords army! One day I shall finish painting them!)

Kosargi Nightguard - these also came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Undead Ogors, raised from the loyal bodyguards that had served Radukar in life.

Vyrkos Blood-Born - these also came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

The Vyrkos were once the mortal nobles of Mournhold before Radukar's seizing control of the city and renamed it Ulfenkarn. They are now feral creatures that stalk the streets of the city at night.

Vargscyr - these also came with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.

Legends

Units that they still have warscrolls for, but aren't allowed in competitive Matched Play... Mostly these are Warhammer Underworlds warbands.

The Sepulchral Guard

The Sons of Velmorn

Zondara’s Gravebreakers

Endless Spells

These are a few of the Endless Spells from the Malign Sorcery box set that I've painted up to use with the Soulblight Gravelords (since they don't have their own faction spells!)

Suffocating Gravetide

The backside of the Suffocating Gravetide. All of those flagstones were added by me... not part of the original model! I wanted it to match the flagstone bases I've used for all the other models! (Also wanted it to look like it was wrecking the streets of Ulfenkarn - as it's also used in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City!)

Still To Do

What I currently OWN and still have to do, is:

  • Sekhar, Fang of Nulahmia
  • Vampire Lords (2) (another set of Vlad and Isabella Von Carstein)
  • Wight King on Skeletal Steed
  • Dire Wolves (10)
  • Fell Bats (3)
  • Vargheists (3)
  • Blood Knights (5)
  • Deathrattle Skeletons (20)
  • The Crimson Court (4)
  • The Exiled Dead (7)

I also have a few more Endless Spells that I could use with this army I could paint up!

THE PLAN

I guess the first part of THE PLAN was to finish up all the stuff for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars. I am very nearly finished that, having only  the three Fell Bats and Radukar the Beast to finish for that!

The NEXT order of business would be to assemble and paint the miniatures needed for a Spearhead Army. I have finished the Vampire Lord, but still need to finish the Deathrattle Skeletons, Bloodknights, and Vargheists...

Those two, Spearhead army plus ALL THE STUFF from Cursed City would make a considerable force... I'd definitely be able to play a Path to Glory campaign with those.

After that, just painting up things for fun - as extra options for the army...

When I've got ALL THE STUFF painted (and picked up the last few Vampires I need for Night Wars) the force will look like...

Spearhead

The Soulblight Gravelords - Bloodcrave Hunt spearheah army includes

General:

  • Vampire Lord (1)

Units:

  • Vargheists (3)
  • Blood Knights (5)
  • Deathrattle Skeletons (10)
  • Deathrattle Skeletons (10)

I've played AGAINST this force a lot as my friend Orion has them. They are BRUTAL!!

Paths to Glory

The next Priority would be to finish up a 1000-point force to use as a starter army in Paths to Glory. As soon as the Spearhead is done, I will have a potential Path to Glory force - by adding in miniatures already painted for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City! That would look like this:

Vampire Lord General's Regiment

  • Hero - Vampire Lord (1) 160 - Any Soulblight Gravelords
  • Unit - Deathrattle Skeletons (20) 200 - Deathrattle, Infantry
  • Unti - Blood Knights (5) 230 - Cavalry
  • Unit - Vargheists (3) 160 - Infantry
  • Unit - Vargskyr (1) 180 - Beast

Total: 930

All in one tidy regiment!

This would be the simplest thing to do! I so have a LOT of other miniatures, though, so I'm sure there are a lot of other options I could consider... once I got more of the stuff painted up!

Larger Forces

I costed out ALL THE STUFF I have at one point and it added up to over 4000 points of stuff. I have enough I could field TWO Soulblight Gravelord armies!? The points have since changed and more than a few of the units are not really allowed in organized play - a lot of the Cursed City stuff and none of the Warhammer Underworlds warbands were included in the Fourth Edition Battletome. Oh, there are still Legends stats out there for people not playing in tournaments and leagues...

I'm kind of just focusing right now on getting the Spearhead army and a Paths to Glory force finished, so not really giving much thought to what bigger armies might look like... Maybe when I get the new Battletome...?

Stuff to Get...!?

There isn't much I'm interested in getting to add to this force at this time...

I guess at some point in the future, if ever I got all (or, at least, MOST of the stuff I have done) it could be fun to add one of the Mortarchs... Neferata, Mortarch of Blood or Mannfred, Mortarch of Night.

Some of the other Vampires models look really fun... Ivya Volga, the Outcast, Belladamma Volga, First of the Vyrkos (I mean, I HAVE some Vyrkos alreay!). Also the Vengorians - Vengorian Lords or Lauka Vai, Mother of Nightmares... Or Prince Vhordrai, Lord of the Crimson Keep on a Revenant Draconith!?

I guess I would need to decide which Bloodline I'd want to build an army around?! As I said, I do have a lot of Vyrkos already...

ALSO, the Cursed Sepulchre/Nexus of Grief looks like a fun little bit of terrain that could have uses beyond Age of Sigmar!
