I got a little distracted… and… um... well…
(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version)
These are Napoleonic Royal Artillery from Renegade Miniatures. I picked them up as a “regiment” during one of their sweet 5 for 4 regiment deals back in January. I have no idea why I decided to paint these right now… It just seemed like a good idea at the time!?
At the same time I also picked up a couple regiments of foot. I haven’t gotten around to the foot mostly because I’m in a quandary about what to do about ensigns – One of the main reasons I ordered them (I mean, beyond the fact that it was a ridiculously good deal…) was that The site said regiments contained “Two Standard Bearers”. I thought this was odd – because the regiments, for the most part, seem to be made up with the same contents as the packs – essentially three packs to the regiment – and the command pack did not include two standard bearers. Sure enough when it arrived there was only one standard bearer per regiment… and so I’m in a quandary – do I bother trying to hassle them to send me a couple bonus standard bearers…? Or do I just convert the sergeant in the command pack (which would be easy enough – he’s carrying a halberd… Or do I order an individual ensign from some other company like Front Rank Figures? The latter seems like a nice option… except that I’d have to make up an order just to get three guys… Bah! I’ll probably just convert the Sergeant when I get around to them. Which probably won’t be all that soon anyway.
Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:
I have a couple new figures I’m painting for my pal Mike that I really ought to get to… after that…? Hopefully get back to the sculpting project…. Or maybe finish off the Vikings and Dwarves haunting the margins of my painting area…
They look good. I do the same sometimes...go off at a tangent and paint something and think..why did i paint that? Fun possibly :-D

Thanks Paul!
ReplyDeleteThat's totally what it was - I was rooting through boxes mentally taking stock of things and i thought; "This would be fun (and quick) to paint and be something a little different...."
Beautiful work on the R.A. The basing is really nice too. Shame about the standard bearers. I would try and hassle Renegade or just go with the sergeant option. Got to have both flags in a unit.
ReplyDeleteNice job on the bases--I like the bevelled edge look you have there.
ReplyDeleteNice work & figures. I'd forgotten Renegade makes some Napoleonics too. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteCheers! I think it's one of their newer lines...? They only have British. No highlanders, not much cavalry... But the artillery packs are neat because they come with three different sized barrels so you can make it whichever you want (AND you get spare barrels that you can use for other things like, say, martian colonial artillery on colonial era gun carriages that you got in a trade without gun barrels and wondered what the heck you were ever going to do with them until... well... you get the idea... just as an example, y'know...)
ReplyDeleteLovely work Tim. Exactly what sort of Nappy army are you building?
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Helen
Thanks Helen.
ReplyDeleteI really have no idea what I'm doing... It was a spur-of-the-moment sort of "hey these are a super good deal and a couple of the guys I most like playing games with LOVE Napoleonics and neither have a british army... so..." I know next to nothing about the era. I have no idea what years these uniforms are good for (I guess I do know enought to know that the uniform evolved throughout the era - but have no idea what changed and when...)...
Originally I thought I'd put together a small force for Black Powder. If/when I ever get around to finishing up what I have they'll certainly be usable for that... But I'm also basing them so I could use them with the DBA Extension for 1500 – 1900AD.
Of course I'll have to pick up an opponent at some point... (French? Americans!?) The only part of the era I have any genuine interest in is the War of 1812. If I'd been sensible I'd have figured out if these were actually useable for the War of 1812 before picking them up (I have a feeling they aren't...). so if ever I finish up these Brits, I'll probably pick up a small force of plastic French to oppose them.
With some 200th anniversaries coming up next year, I've been thinking of reading up on the War of 1812 and maybe working out some project to play out some of the battles over the next couple years...
Thanks Tim. there is no reason why you can't us ethe artillery crew for 1812. I know a little on the Nappy period, but not enough to leap in without some research.
ReplyDeleteI love the Peninsular period and 1815.
Cheers and good luck.
