The Last of Johnny Canuck

This is it; the last of the WW2 Canadian infantry I have to paint. I've finished over 100 in total, plus the Firefly and the Humber. I still have a six pounder AT gun (though the crew is finished), three Shermans, and a Universal Carrier to finish up. When those are complete I’ll get a big pic of the whole bunch of them…. For now, however…

(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version)

As with the other Canadians, this is a mix of Artizan Designs, Crusader Miniatures, West Wind Productions, and First Corps.

Here's the lot of them in their storage drawer. I'm six riflemen, a sergeant, and a subaltern shy of two full-strength platoons. There are also supporting elements from the battalions AT, Mortar, and Pioneer Platoons, as well as the Battalion Chaplain, teams from the divisional MG battalion and a number of casualty figures...

Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:

I’ll be finishing up the Shermans and others right away. Then...? Germans or Russians...? Being so close to finishing these I'm getting excited about running a Normandy/Northwest Europe campaign... Hopefully finishing up some Russians will get me focused on the East Front Campaign again...

  1. Hey there, Tim.

I've been following your blog for a couple of months now, and am really enjoying it (especially the Savage Worlds battle reports of various kinds).

I've got a question for you: I notice that you mount your prone figures on a pair of washers. How do you join the two washers together?

    Thanks!

  2. Great work Tim. You really are a painting machine.

Love the Canadians an I look forward to seeing the complete outfit when finished.

    Cheers,

    Helen

  3. Cheers!

First, I glue the two washers together with a cyanoacrylate glue (Flash Glue, Crazy Glue, etc). Often there are imperfect washers with clipped or slightly flattened sides, I save them for this purpose. Then I glue the figure down with the same glue - this really holds them together. Then when I get around to applying my "Base Goop" (mixture of carpenters glue, model railroad ballast and brown acrylic paint) I fill in a bit of the space between the washers... Um... this would be one of those things that's a lot easier to show than to describe... I hope that makes some sense..?

  4. Yep. That makes perfect sense. And (as a special bonus) I now have something to do with those imperfect washers!!! I've always tossed them out, feeling slightly abused by the QA department at the manufacturer :-)

    Thanks Tim.

  5. You are really working through these figs! With the 28mm Russians recently released in plastic, as well as the Germans and now the news of British from Warlord, this period is calling me! You aren't any help at the moment either ;)

    Great stuff!

  6. Thanks n.

The feeling is mutual - every time I visit your site I risk utter distraction and veering off one some new tangent! (so many pretty things!)
