"Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."
This was Favourite Character Fortnight Theme Bonus
Round Entry over at the Fourth
Annual Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge.
Arriving just in time for the Favourite
Character Fortnightly Theme Bonus Round - the "American Trucker"
bonus figure given out to everyone that ordered the Fistful of Kung Fu
Pre-Order Deal.
(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version):
"It's all in the reflexes..."
One of my all-time favourite characters, from one
of my all-time favourite movies.
"I know, there's a problem with your face."
Here's the "new" Jack with my "old" Jack
- the "Burt Jackson - Trucker" figure from Rafm which I picked up and
painted a few years back.
'When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your
neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he
looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you
just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol'
Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues,
Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."'
"New Jack" seems to have a bit more of a
tan...?
NEITHER of these guys are actually carrying a Tec-9 like
Jack Burton in the movie does. The Rafm version seems to have some short
version of an MP-5 and the newer one has something that looks more like an Uzi.
I'm guessing it has to do with some attempt to prove they are not infringing on
Twentieth Century Fox's intellectual property rights...

Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:
I have some Halflings and Elves in the pipe and the painting front... Started on a few more terrain tiles... and I hope to get in a few more games of A Song of Blades and Heroes this week with the kids (and maybe even try out A Fistful of Kung Fu (though I promised the kids I'd read Tales of Blades and Heroes first...)

Great work, especially on the shirt.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteT-shirt designs and patterned clothes are always tough - especially if one is trying to make it look like a specific design or pattern - how do you make the impression leaving out enough detail that it's actually paintable, but enough that it's recognizable as what it's supposed to be. Sometimes it works out for me... other times... not so much. I have to say I'm pretty happy with this one!
I agree, very impressive painting on the T shirts.
ReplyDeleteThanks John!
DeleteBrilliant stuff Tim. Now I'm going to have to watch the film AGAIN. :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers!
DeleteI had to watch it again painting it... Now I'm going to have to watch it again to get inspired to play with it... It's not a bad thing - it is one of my all-time favourite movies...
Great looking figure, it even look like Kurt Russel!
ReplyDeleteThat's Ray! Yeah, the sculptor really nailed it!
DeleteHe's just a teeeeeeny bit more 80's. Great job on a really nice mini.
ReplyDeleteI assume you are using "intellectual" property ironically?
ReplyDeleteHeh... yeah, something like that...
DeleteVery well done Tim! Of course now it makes me wonder if anyone has made the 3 bosses in miniature, The lightning guy was one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteThe Storms? Yeah, those would be cool... Might just have to do a bit of converting...
DeleteNice work on both Jacks - but I think the newer one looks closer to the real character.
ReplyDeleteThe miniature has a great paint job. The only bad thing is the mini holds a mac-10 and Jack Burton uses a Tec9. Not realistic.
