Game Plan 2026 - Q4

Before we get on with the plan for Q4, let's take a quick look back at Q3...

2026 - Q3 In Review

Wow... this past quarter feels like it just BLEW PAST!! And yet, trying to remember stuff that happened at the beginning off it feels like FOREVER AGO!?

The original PLAN for Q3 can be found here:

Game Plan 2026 - Q3

Q3 GAMES

I planed to play some games...

I played some games!!

According to Board Game Geek, I played:

  • Carcassonne x9
  • Blood Bowl: Third Season Edition x5
  • Magical Athlete x2
  • Forest Shuffle x1
  • Just Desserts x1
  • Sagrada x1
  • Space Invaders x1
  • Stargrave x1
  • Test of Honour: The Samurai Miniatures Game Gaming Set (Second Edition) x1
  • UNO x1

Total: 23 Games!!

Blood Bowl

This was were my attention had gone and there was a new local league starting in July and so I signed up for it with the Gnarly Gobbos - the team I played with when I last played Blood Bowl - nearly 35 years ago!! It was only two games a month and most of the people seemed like good folks! So far I have played four games and the league continues into the next quarter (I was supposed to have played six by now... but Game Five kind of got held up - not entirely by ME! - and so...)

Also I got an extra games with Vera!

Warhammer Quest

I'd kind of hoped I'd get to finishing up the last of the Soulblight Gravelords needed to play Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Nemesis BEFORE the end of the Summer/Quarter - thinking it would be nice to get STARTED and establish a regular game night before classes begin again.... but that just hasn't happened...

Age of Sigmar

I had hoped I'd be able to catch some action at the tail end of the Warhammer Stores Summer Hobby League... but that just didn't happen. I was too busy with Blood Bowl and the house renovation...

40K

I had considered the possibility of playing a few games of the new edition at some point... Even picked up the new rules... but just haven't been feeling it.

I'd rather play something like Wrath & Glory (the 40K Role-Playing Game!) and occasionally bust out the miniatures whenever needed for a larger battle!

Other Games

After visiting  Musée de l'Armée at the Hôtel National des Invalides in Paris, I'd been thinking a lot about the Great War and World War Two again... However, that just has not happened... and I don't think there will be much movement on either of these until sometime next year.

I DID however get to play a game of Stargrave - kicking off the Hope Eternal campaign!

I also finally got to play a game with Trevor and tried out Test of Honour!

We did get in a few more boardgames...

Amanda and I played nine games of Carcassonne IN Carcassonne, which instantly put it into MOST PLAYED GAME OF 2026 (so far) position!

I also picked up a new board game - Forest Shuffle - and I've played it once, but Amanda got in a game before that with other friends!

And we had a whole board game afternoon with Vera and Charlie and played Magical Athlete (twice!), Space Invaders, and Just Desserts!

(also I've noticed Finnegan has been playing a lot more board games with his friends lately - on the regular RPG nights when not enough people show up to play the campaign or if someone in particular is REQUIRED for the next adventure and can't make it...)

Q3 MINIATURES

I did hope I'd get to finishing up the last of the Soulblight Gravelords - which will set me up for finishing off Warhammer Quest: Cursed City AND give me another faction to play with in Age of Sigmar...

There were also the last few things for Warhammer Quest: Darkwater... but I already had a feeling I probably wouldn't get to finishing off those until I was done the stuff for Cursed City and and actually playing the Nemesis campaign!

I did pledge to paint a few things for the Age of Sigmar Summer Hobby League being run through the Warhammer Store... The Tzaangor Warflock and a few others, but that just didn't happen at all...

I was fairly certain I'd be working on some Blood Bowl stuff -  continue touching up some of the older teams and painting some other ones, new (Bretonnian and Tomb Kings) and old (Dwarves and Elves) - and there were also a few tokens and templates to paint up!

What I DID get to painting was...

The Skaven were to finish up a Skaven Blood Bowl team I'd painted 35 years ago. I touched up the bases and numbers and names on all the team members and finished painting two lineman that I'd never finished painting back in the day, and rebased and finished painting a rat ogre.

The Hammertown Tiger Rats

More pictures of them can be seen here:

Blood Bowl - Hammertown Tiger-Rats

I also finished up a few things for the Gnarly Gobbos - the team I'm playing in the league - including an old Goblin Ball-and-Chain Fanatic, as well as a pair of more recently acquired Doom Divers

The Gnarly Gobbos

I did acquire a few more things...

GAME PLAN 2026 - Q4

And so... the plans for Q4...

These plans are at best, as Deadpool would say, an "educated wish"...

Actual line from the movie...

(©2024 marvel/disney/etc used here entirely without their permission)

I'd LOVE to play some games and paint some miniatures... buuuuut... being back in school full time is... kind of a lot.

Q4 GAMES

Assuming I'm still alive... I plan to play some games...

Blood Bowl

The League continues, I think, until the end of October after which there are play-offs (Which it is not likely I'll be a part of...) I have four more regular league games to play (as I didn't actually get to playing the September games IN SEPTEMBER!!

Also at the beginning of October there is a one-day Blood Bowl Tournament I'd been thinking of playing in... but now am thinking I just don't have the time...

Warhammer Quest

I had really hoped we'd be playing again by now... Hopefully we'll get going sometime THIS QUARTER and be able to keep a weekly game night going and maybe finish off the Cursed City Nemesis campaign by the end of the year... (maybe get in some extra games over the Holidaze!) and FINALLY move on to Warhammer Quest: Darkwater!

Age of Sigmar

The plan is to at the very least finish the Lord of Change and another Treelord and then both Amanda and I will participate in Beast Feast - a mega battle with only models with the MONSTER keyword, that have been pledged, assembled, and painted within the last 4-6 weeks!

MAYBE I'll get in some games over the holidaze? At least some games of Spearhead!?

I would like to get a campaign going again... but I don't think that's happening this year!

Stargrave

I do hope to get in another game or two of our Occasional Stargrave Campaign this Quarter!

Other Miniature Games

With Blood Bowl and Warhammer Quest and the Stargrave campaign going on, I'm not sure I'll get around to any other games... but...

I have been thinking about 40K a bit, especially around setting up a narrative campaign playing out smallish designed scenarios (similar to The Signal Campaign I organized a few years back). but I don't think it's going to happen THIS QUARTER... maybe sometime next year...

Likewise still thinking about Bolt Action a lot... and have another small campaign I've been working on for Vera and her Hungarians... but I have a feeling that might not happen until sometime next year as well...

Playing Test of Honour with Trevor and visiting museums in Europe has kind of got me thinking about OTHER GAMES - and history (or history-inspired) games again...

Role-Playing Games?

I would love to get some kind of role-playing game going on... there are SO MANY things I'd like to do, though... Maybe wait until we're done with Warhammer Quest? Hopefully Warahmemr Quest and the Stargrave campaign will scratch that itch for the time being!

Board Games!

I would like to get playing some more board games again... It feels like we've played a FEW more board games so far this year, than we had last year!?

Q4 MINIATURES

What will I get painted in the last three months of the year...

Well... if nothing else. I'd LOVE to try and get XX miniatures done, so I can at least have painted more miniatures than I've acquired this year. This might be tricky, though... over the last five or six years I've been averaging about 200 miniatures a year, which is about 16 miniatures per month. I'm way below that average so far this year, and with all that's going on at school, I might find even 16 miniatures a month challenging to do...

So far this year I've acquired...

28mm Foot: 124

28mm Mounted/Beasties: 10

28mm Vehicles/Monsters: 3

28mm Small Bits/Tokens: 46

28mm Larger Terrain bits: 2

and so far  have managed to PAINT...

28mm Foot: 65

28mm Mounted/Beasties: 2

28mm Vehicles/Monsters: 0

28mm Endless Spells: 0

28mm Small Bits/Tokens: 37

28mm Larger Terrain bits: 0

So I'd need to paint at least 59x  28mm Foot, 8 Mounted/Beasties, 3 Vehicles/Monsters, and 9 Small Bits/Tokens to not have acquired more than I've painted (assuming I buy NOTHING for the rest of the year!). Ideally I'd like to paint MORE than I've acquired... so... but I'm not sure that's going to happen at this point...

There is also a new Warhammer Quest expansion on the horizon as well as a small standalone game... which would be TEN MORE miniatures?!

Last week I got thinking about priorities and ended up posting this as a reply to a comment on a post....

The painting priorities for the immediate future are as follows:

#1 - The Lord of Change and Treelord that I am assembling and painting for Beast Feast (two weeks away!)

#2 - Things required for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Nemesis! This is a Necromancer, three Vargheists, and ten Grave Guard/Barrow Guard. Because I'd like to get playing this with the family again! (Ideally ASAP... but after the Beast Feast models... If I could finish it by the end of October I'd be happy - as that way we could start playing in November!)

#3 - Things required for Warhammer Quest: Darkwater - because I'd like to play this after we finish up the Cursed City Nemesis campaign.... and it will be easier to justify purchases of the upcoming expansion(s) if I have the stuff for the base set finished! This could also include the Lumineth Adventuring Party and any expansions that come out in the coming months (if this could be done by the end of the year, I'd be pretty happy as I'd be ready to play whenever we finished up the Nemesis campaign!)

#4 - Blood Bowl Stuff... First the Nurgle Team Im hoping to play in the next season (starting in January!), then the Tomb Kings (for me to take to the NEXT tournament -in the new year, probably march...? and/or for Amanda to have a team to play...?) and if I got all that done... maybe pick up a Dark Elf team (because I think Amanda would like the Dark Elves...?)

#5 Other Stuff... There will be other stuff... like maybe the occasional thing for Stargrave... or Bolt Action or some Age of Sigmar stuff (like maybe finishing up the Blood Knights as they will be the ONLY THING I need to finish the Soulblight Gravelords Spearhead army, once the Vargheists are done, OR the Fiends of Slaanesh - as they are the only thing needed to finish up the second Hedonites of Slaanesh Spearhead army I have!). They may slip in BEFORE some of these things are done, but ideally I should try and keep as much OTHER STUFF off the workbench so as NOT TO GET DISTRACTED BY IT!!!

I do have a few re-basing projects on the go - mostly for the occasional Stargrave campaign we started three weeks ago (and I STILL haven't finished the game report!?) we won't be playing that again until after Beast Feast, so I don't need to worry about that much for now!)

Anything else is probably going to have to wait until the new year...

What have you been up to for the last few months?

What do YOU have planned for the next few months!?

LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS!!

February Games

I played a game in February...

Tuesday, 3 February 2026

Started off the month with the GRAND FINALE to our Warhammer Quest: Cursed City campaign! This was the 44th game of Cursed city and the 15th game of the Night Wars campaign. I think it lasted 3-4 rounds...

The scenario looked HARD, but Brutogg got in a lucky hit against Carmilla Du Sang early on, and Glaurio finished her off and it went all downhill for the vampires very quickly after that...

You can read all about it here:

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Night Wars 15 - The FINAL BATTLE...?

Aaaaaand then... that was about it...

Everyone was kind of busy with work and school.

Amanda was away half the month. Orion and Nick went on a ski trip...

Maybe in March...

I did track down a copy of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Nemesis - the third and final campaign of the trilogy. I'd initially given up on trying to track one down... but then one showed up at Fenris Workshop among the Used Miniatures and Games (though it was brand new and still in the shrink wrap!) for a not unreasonable price... so I picked that up and the two units I still needed to play the campaign and have been working on trying to paint them up so we can carry on with Warhammer Quest: Cursed City in March!

I guess we'll get to Warhammer Quest: Darkwater AFTER that!

Nemesis, Flowers, Blightkings, Ghosts, and Others...

My order from Fenris Workshop arrived today...

The primary reason for the order was picking up the third campaign for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - NEMESIS! We'll be starting this in March - when Amanda gets back from her little vacation...

Since I was ordering from them, I decided to pick up a BUNCH of flowers for basing. Regular grass tufts and shrubs of all varieties of greens and browns are available at Dragon's Den Games... but not colourful flowers! These should last a while!

and then I picked up a few used miniatures... Some Putrid Blightkings (to fill out a unit of ten that I'm basing on 32mm bases to call Rotswords) a pair of Nighthaunt Heroes (Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed  and a Guardian of Souls), an old metal Dark Elf Sorceress and an old metal Necromunda Bounty Hunter (both minis I've seen and thought looked really cool... but I've only ever seen being sold for $30-60... these were less than $15 each!)

The metal ones I might strip the paint off of... the others, I'll probably just paint over!

This puts me at 19 x 28mm foot and 1x 28mm mounted miniatures purchased... and 32 x 28mm miniatures painted. Still ahead!

Dire Wolves

I picked up these wolves over a year and a half ago when I picked up the Fangs of the Blood Queen Dawnbringers box. I needed the Fell Bats for Night Wars and that was a way to pick them up - and some other Soulblight Gravelords stuff - at a bit of a discount!  I just didn't get to painting the Dire Wolves... (or the vampire that came in the box, for that matter!). Now that I have a copy of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City - Nemesis on the way, I finally found some motivation to knock them out quickly... I think what kept me from getting them done was colours - I agonized over how to to a pack of wolves with some variance in colours... This week I decided, fuck it, they're evil undead fantastical wolves from a fictional realm.... they can all be BLACK!!

Dire Wolves!

ALL of my other Soulblight Gravelords models are on flagstone bases, but that felt like it might look odd for these - especially since many of them had large boulders incorporated into the model and I thought they'd look funny just sitting on the flag stones. I guess I could have made them look like rubble...? As it is, I did them all on rocky bases painted the same colour as the flagstone so they could blend in a bit and it COULD be rubble in a city OR it COULD be rocky mountainous terrain!?

Once I'd decided on just painting their coats black, these went VERY quickly!

Most of the Vampire Heroes I have are named characters of the Vyrkos Dynasty. The fluff suggests some relationship with wolves - like maybe they're descended from Wolves or something? Belladamma Volga (one that I don't have) can have a meatshield of Dire Wolves. When I have megalomaniacal dreams of possible armies, I sometimes think of an entire Soulblight Gravelords army based around the Vyrkos Heroes and just packs and packs of wolves... It would probably be total crap as a competitive army... but it would look cool and be very thematic!

(Well now I HAD to math it out... If I picked up Belladamma Volga and Ivya Volga - the two Vyrkos characters I don't have - I'd need another FIVE packs of Dire Wolves to make a 2000 point army... and that would be just a bit under $500CAD...)

It felt like they were HUGE while I was painting them..probably because, in my minds eye I was comparing them to ancient metal Wolves I had...

I think the one on the round base is from Westward Productions and the goblin wolf-rider is a metal Marauder Miniature from the 1990s that I still haven't stripped and repainted!

I'm not suggesting this is BAD thing. I think it is apropos that they be HUGE and TERRIFYING... they are DIRE wolves, after all!!

Comparing them to modern Vyrkos Dynasty Vampires, though... they're kind of perfect!

With Radukar the Wolf

With Kritza the Rat Prince

With Lady Annika

Somparing them to the Vampires on their flagstone bases, I kind of feel like maybe I need to hit the bases with another dry-brushing of a slightly lighter grey...? to make them match the tone of the flagstone a bit better - but also seeing them on the game table, it will make a bit better contrast between the bases and the wolves... Will I get around to doing this any time soon...? Maybe...?

I still have the Vargheists, a unit of Grave Guard, and the Necromancer to finish up for Nemesis, but we won't be playing for almost three weeks, so I'll easily get those done. The Vargheists came with the Soulblight Gravelord Bloodcrave Hunt Spearhead army, so getting them done will get me a bit closer to finishing those as well - I'll just have the five Blood Knights to finish up! (Then we'll see some Vamp-on-Vamp violence versus Orion's Soublights!)
