One Halfling from Casting Room
Miniatures. He looks like he’s on watch duty, but he will also serve
as part of the Halfling Hollow Defence Committee Militia unit of spear.
Well I also added some shields
to these guys I painted
just over a year ago (to make them look just a tad more formidable…
or something approaching formidable… or at least less like s squishy speed bump…).
The entire Halfling Hollow
Defence Committee Militia Spear Unit. In Dragon
Rampant they will be classed as Light Foot (3 points). I was thinking
I could give them the Short Range Missiles upgrade (to give them the ability to
pick up stones and chuck them at an approaching enemy!)… we shall see…
The rest of the Halfling Hollow
Defence Committee Militia will be a mix of Light Missile (which may or may not
have the Sharpshooter upgrade… though I’m thinking I might leave that one to Elves…
I don’t want the Halflings to be TOO effective!) and a few Scouts and/or
Hordes.
I have a bunch of Halflings armed
with short swords and I’d originally thought I’d use in mixed units of Light
Foot… but then thought those might be a little too good. Looking at the overall
effect off the units, they should be pretty weak… I was thinking I’d add
Fearful… but that would make them so cheap I’d need even MORE of them! And I
figured they’d mostly be fighting to defend their realm from outside invaders and
raiders and would likely be pretty spirited in that defence…
Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:
Probably more fantasy stuff.
A fine-looking unit!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gordon! As they are the backbone of the Halfling Hollow Defence Committee Militia they need to be able to strike an impressive pose - to inspire the other troops to stand fast in the face of adversity!
DeleteThat last guy is a cute little fella! With his pose and his smile he almost looks like that could be a fishing rod over his shoulder!
ReplyDeleteHe is definitely happy in his work! You are right, though, he looks like he could totally have a fishing rod! I really like all of these casting room miniatures sculpts - so fun and full of character!
DeleteHalflings are pretty stout, not fearful! :)
ReplyDeleteNice work on the little fellows.
(I did have to pin a few of the ones I got a few years ago - some basically came snapped off at the legs. That one marching along jauntily with the lantern and spear was rather fragile in that regard, what with only one foot on the ground.)
I had the same problem with a few of the Casting Room Miniatures - in fact this very guy was broken off at the join between his pants and his lower leg - a pin, some green stuff and a touch of cyanoacrylate put him back together again. The top half of a human archer's bow broke off and never made it in the package - so it had to be manufactured from scratch. Also a rifle barrel was also broken - and was a bit trickier to replace - I tried relacing it with wire but it still doesn't look all that great...
DeleteWell painted bunch of little blokes!! Never heard of Casting Room Miniatures but I'm already a fan! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Scott!
DeleteCasting Room Miniatures is an adjunct of Foundry Miniatures. They used to sell these as part of their regular line, but I think they decided to separate the fantasy miniatures from their historical minis.
ReplyDeleteThey are part of the foundry... but I don't think it's quite as simple as fantasy vs historical - MOST of Casting Room Miniatures stuff is Historical - and there are still fantasy miniatures on Wargames Foundry's main site...
DeleteThere's a bit of a convoluted explaination on their About Us page...

Ah, OK, my mistake (that's what I get for trying to go from (faulty) memory). Thanks for clarifying, Tim. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a little confusing... I'm not sure I entirely understand myself... I think it's mostly because they have doubled up stuff - for example they have Zulu War stuff sculpted by the Perrys which is very fine and slight and Zulu war stuff from whoever did all the sculpting for the Casting Room stuff which is a bit more chunky and cartoony and they didn't want to put them all in the same place because... well.. they are VERY different!
