MORE Orruks... Morruks...?

I started rebasing and (partially) repainting a few of my old Warhammer Orcs for use as Orruks in Age of Sigmar or Warcry or whatever a while back. I kind of stalled as I wasn't sure how to field them in either game. At the time, the current Orruks Warclans were of two varieties - Ironjawz and Savage Orruks. The Ironjaws are massive - wearing giant, full plate armour and having no missile weapons, whatsoever. The, by contrast, Savage Orruks are all running around with loincloths and weapons made of stone... All of my older Orcs are mostly wearing lighter metal armour (short chainmail hauberks and shields) and have archer and crossbow armed warriors - and seemed a stretch to field as either of those polar extremes.

With the launch of the new Age of Sigmar and the Kruelboyz - I have hope that there will soon be warscrolls that more closely match my existing Orcs/Orruks.

Orruks! With one exception, most of these are from Ugezod's Death Commandos. I do have the rest of the Commandoes, but they were requiring more painting - these were mostly just rebased and I repainted the skin (which I had previously painted an Orange-ish colour as I was bored of Green Orcs). I didn't rustify the metal... I can't fully repaint EVERYTHING!?

Adding these to Ironskull's Boyz and Morgok's Krishas, the Orruk Warclan grows!

Wow... the older Orcs look like grots next to the newer gigantic plastic Orruks!? Definitely won't be mixing them into units of boyz... still hopeful they can be passed off as Kruelboyz - if I keep them in a separate unit of just older metal minis.

  1. I don't have any of the new orks (orruks? is that to avoid some copyright thing or something?), but I do see scale creep from my oldest ones to more recent ones (relatively "recent" - talking 80s-ish/early 90s vs maybe later 90s/early 2000s?). There's the same issue of the older ones looking like grots next to the newer ones. Maybe the newer ones are getting better nutrition...

    1. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a copyright/IP thing...? I don't know exactly what the details/reasons are. Maybe because they have the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise games stuff - they couldn't keep using the names of Tolkien's critters in their own stuff? Or just so that they have a thing that IS their own that other people can't use...?
