This second journey into Ulfenkarn that we chose was a Deliverance Journey - to help the beleaguered citizens of the city escape the Suffocating Gravetide - and endless spell that roves the cities streets and alleys, threatening to bury all in it's path in churned earth, cobblestones, and the bodies of the dead...
The mission, should it be successful, will bring down the fear the Citizens are suffering under significantly, but increases Radukar's infulence...
Amanda, again, played Emelda Braskov and Glaurio ven Alten III, and Finnegan played Jelsen Darrock and Brutogg Corpse-Eater... mostly because I haven't finished painting any of the others!? I'm kind of playing game master, playing the hostiles and generally trying to keep the game moving along..
I'm STILL not super clear on how exactly the Hostile reinforcements are supposed to work on this type of Journey... we kind of just BSed our way through and it seemed to work out...
All ready to go!
With a Deliverance Journy, the map is generated randomly with cards and some have rooms/streets have mysterious objects/and or the presence of hostiles marked on them.
At the beginning of the Journey, there are two streets/squared rooms generated.
Some rooms are marked indicating the presence of civilians that must be warned of the approach of the Suffocating Gravetide!
Emelda Braskov was the first into the building. therein she found three of the Ulfenwatchand cut all three down in short order!
But, as the last of the undead watch dropped, the room was filled with swarms of corpse rats that flooded in from the next room!
Brutogg Corpse-Eater joined and began smashing and stomping all the rats - and likely snacking on a few!
Jelson Darrock arrived and finished off the Corpse Rats - or at least enough of them to induce the others to scurry off somewhere else!
Glaurio Ven Alten III, joined them as a mob of Zombies shambled their way...
Brutogg, Ven Alten, and Darrock made quick work of the ponderously slow walking dead...
Braskov pushed past, warning nearby civilians to seek shelter and get away from the Gravetide that was hot on their heels!
The group was attacked from behind by more Ulfenwatch!
And then a swarm of bats! But Braskov pressed onto, into the next square, where she was assailed by MORE swarms of Corpse Rats!
Ven Alten III, Darrock and Brutogg rushed to catch up with Braskov - and stay ahead of the Gravetide!
Then one of the Vyrkos Blood-Born Vampires attacked Glaurio from behind - very likely one of his own relatives!
Ulfenwatch also attacked Glaruio as he held a position by the door hoping to trap them all in their as the Gravetide approached - roaring into the room with them, tosing flagstones in every direction, churning up dirt and long dead corpses from below, burying or destroying all in it's path!
Glaurio escaped the room just as the roof was about to collapse in on them and joined the others out in the street... who had encountered MORE Deadwalker zombies!
The Zombies were easy enough to take care of...
Emelda Braskov put them all down...
The others rushed past into the next square, smashing apart the Ulfenwatch within and shouting warnings to all nearby!
The injured Ven Alten, escaping with the Gravetide at his heels!
Getting harder to stay ahead of the Gravetide!
Brutogg trying to get to the next passage is attacked by bats!
Darrock joins him, blasting at the bats with his Big Gun and missing them entirely!
Ven Alten and Braskov join them, followed by more zombies that had assaulted them in the previous square.
The situation was getting pretty desperate! The Braskov dashed past Brotugg and tried to cut down the bats and open the next doorway... she failed to do so...
So she stepped out of the way in hopes that someone else might lead them out - her activation being over, and the Gravetide being in the square with them meant she would be caught in there when it killed all within and damaged any heroes kicking them into the next room/square.
I think it was Ven Alten that opened the next door and he and Brutogg escaped, Braskov and Darrock were pushed through by the Gravetide and damaged in the process...
At this point we decided it was getting a bit late as Amanda had to be up early for work... and decided to call it a night and maybe try to finish it up tomorrow. We started a bit late and the game took a lot longer than expected - because we were trying to figure out things as we go...
Things were looking pretty bad... Jelson Darrock was severely wounded and could only use Destiny dice... and the event we rolled to finis up the last turn we played this evening was NO DESTINY DICE. As he was starting in the room that the Gravetide, he would take 2 Damage when it pushed him out of the room.... and he would be out of action.
luckily we have this Game Room with a bit table we CAN leave things out on...
When I went to read over the rules for the scenario, I realized we'd done a BUNCH of things wrong - which made it WAY harder...
Mainly, when doing the Exploration action - to reveal more rooms, TWO rooms are to be revealed each time... and I was only putting out ONE... which severly slowed their progress.
Also, though I didn't quite realize it at the time, I was doing the Monster Reinforcements wrong... Monsters are ONLY revealed in the rooms - though I'm not sure why there are any of the "lynchgates" - where monster reinforcements arrive in other scenarios - so ultimately, they faced WAY MORE monsters that they should have... like, WAAAAAAY MORE... but I didn't quite make this realization until AFTER we were done the next night...
Stay tuned for Part Two!
