Work-in-Progress Wednesday - 23 October 2024

Kind of been ALL OVER THE PLACE this past week... vacilating between wanting to finish up a Hedonites of Slaanesh Daemonic Cavalry Horde... or dropping everything and doing a Slaves to Darkness Cavalry Horde. Before sliding into an indecision spiral, I decided to start on a small batch of miniatures needed to play a new (to me) game... and then feeling overwhelmed by all the boxes of stuff on the shelves SURROUNDING my workbench, I decided to finish off a massive re-basing project to clear at least ONE THING out of the room!

Over 100 anceint/mythical Greeks rebased. Some had been individually based on washers, others had been on multi-figure bases for DBA, which I realized I was just never going to get to... (though after watching the finale of Dimension 20's Crown of Candy - where they were using itty-bitty almost micro-scale miniatures to play out a large battle... I wasted an entire afternoon researching 1/200 scale ancients and trying to figure out how much it would cost to put together a few DBA armies with that!? Aye-yi-yi....)

So then I started another batch of Greeks (and AMAZONS!) that I needed to finish rebasing... and then there are many hundreds more that could be based and painted...

For now I'll try to finish these up in the coming weeks, just to have a thing that is DONE FOR NOW (the painted ones) and maybe have a few that are based and primed and ready to go, should I feel like I NEED TO PAINT ANCIENT/MYTHICAL GREEKS NOW!!!

(it happens)

I might actually paint a few individuals, just to complete a few units (for Dragon Rampant!)

There are also a few WW2 figures in that batch - for Five Men in Normandy - which I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN ABOUT!?

What is actually ON the workbench this week...?

Marines and Genestealers for the Lost Patrol - the infestation tokens are actually DONE, but I thought I'd wait until the rest are done and post pictures of them all together! This will probably be my top priority for the week... because it's a limited number of things that are mostly done and I'll have a whole new game that I can theoretically play... and a SHORT, fairly EASY game that can be set up and played very quickly!

My very nearly painted Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount made her way back onto the workbench to join Tzarketh... to further tempt me back to working on Slaves to Darkness....

The Slaves to Darkness Darkoath riders and Chieftan are still there... not a lot of work was done on them this week...

Slowly plinking away at bits of the Chaos Ogors.

Still three Warhammer Underworlds wartbands hanging out... waiting to be finished...

Two of the three Hedonites of Slaanesh Endless Spells...

Two Chaos beasties... Khorne Khorgorath and Darkoath Wilderfiend

Uggggghhh... So much Blades of Khorne stuff... taking up so much real estate on the workbench and NOT being worked on... I think it might be time to move these off...

I did start working on a new terrain piece... the base, at least...

I've also been working on some markers for the Hedonites of Slaanesh army - some of them will be control markers. Others will be markers to denote which units are "Euphoric" and which are under certain spell effects... Probably don't need QUITE this many... I'd misunderstood how the Euphoic thing worked and realized that only THREE units can be Euphoric at any time...

As I mentioned, I'll probably puch to finish the Marines and Genestealers... then...? I think maybe the Ogors, because they're so close to being done and kind of fun...?

I have a feeling as excited as I am about Slaves to Darkness, I may be resigning myself to sticking to Hedonites of Slaanesh for this round of Path to Glory and all the Seekers and Hellstriders may be back on teh workbench presently!

WHAT IS EVERYONE ELSE WORKING ON THIS WEEK!?

Zombies and Amazons

Progress slowed on the painting front earlier in the week as I got busy with other things (which will probably be a recurring theme this spring) but last night Amanda and I stayed up way to late watching a couple episodes of Buffy the Vampire slayer and I got some more zombies finished. I’m making a push to finish up zombies because, after this lot, I think I have only 15 or 16 left to do (out of 120+).

The Amazons I painted last weekend, but didn’t get the basing finished until this weekend.

(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version):

Zombies! There are zombies from Mega Miniatures, Cold War Miniatures, and West Wind Productions

An element of Bow for my HoTT/DBA Amazon Army – figures are from Wargames Foundry . I have a half dozen elements of spear, and a couple Cavalry and Light Horse (or Riders) and a Knight General (chariot) to finish up.

I’d like to get some more HOTT gaming in.

So much to do, so little time.

Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:

Hopefully the rest of the zombies!

Amazon Priestesses

Another element for the Amazon DBA/HOTT army.

(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version)

These, as the other Amazons, are from Wargames Foundry

Could be a Cleric (or Magician!?) in HOTT (but how would they move that altar around the field is beyond me… !?).

Or perhaps just “camp followers” for either…

Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:

Gosh… more Amazons? Greeks? ELVES!?

Probably an General element for the Black Tree Design Greek Hoplite army (since I already have a couple of the figures done and the rest are about half finished…

I should really clear the West Franks off the painting table… Honestly I just don’t think I’m going to get to them any time soon they’ve remained there for two reasons; a) I feel like I SHOULD get them done, as it’s the only full army I have left to finish up for the Dark Ages… well… other than the second Viking army…. And b) they take up more space on their painting bases than they will on their DBA element bases when they are finished and I have very limited space in the West Frank Drawer… I may need to farm some elements out to other storage drawers… probably the singly based skirmishy figures… they might find a home in one of the English drawers as there seems to be space there…

I also have some Artizan French Foreign legion lurking about the painting table… and some MARTIANS!? They were brought out in a moment of weakness (probably after watching a John Carter preview… still haven’t seen the movie…).

Amazon Psiloi!

The bulk of my Amazon Army arrived this week from Wargames Foundry. This army was, ostensibly, to be for my daughter to play with (As Amanda already has a Army of Warrior Wimyn of her own). I thought the girl would be all excited – seeing as how she’s all about the Greek legend and pretty excited about… well… y’know… GIRLS… (Every story we read she makes up her own version involving only women…) But when I presented the idea to her, though she thought it was pretty cool, she decided she’d much rather have her own army of undead…

Well then…

Fair enough… I’ll be getting started on those straight away! But in the meantime, here are a few Amazons…

(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version)

This will be a stand of Psiloi (when playing DBA… not sure what I’d classify it as in HOTT…?)

I did the rest of the pack based individually for skirmish gamin’

Here’s what the army will eventually look like (including all options)

1x Hero or Knight General (Amazon Queen in chariot)
1x Magician or Cleric (Priestess at altar – alternately this could be the “camp”)
6x Spear (Amazon Hoplites)
2x Bow (Amazons Archers)
1x Auxilia (Lighter Spear-armed Amazons)
1x Psiloi (the Amazon slingers above)
1x Cavalry (Amazons on horsies)
2x Light Horse (Amazon archers on Horsies – one stand is actually Skythians)

Plus there's a fair few left over for skirmishy/role-playing adventures

Coming soon on Tim’s Miniature Wargaming Blog:

Gosh there’s a lot of crap on the workbench… and this is AFTER a big clean-up… There’s Greek Hoplites… There’s Amazons… There’s West Franks…. Undead… Queen Victoria with a double-barreled shotgun… Egyptians… and a pile of other stuff that’s snuck on there at one point or another that I thought I’d quickly finish up… and then didn’t…
