Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne - and Khorgorath

The first two of a big batch of Khorne things that will hopefully be rolling off the workbench over the next week or so...

Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne, and Khorgorath!

Baelyngar - Bloodmaster, Herald of Khorne, is a daemonic champion that buffs nearby Bloodletters. It is the leader of the Chaos Daemons Combat Patrol I bought last week.

I already have one (Korgorand), so I modified this one a bit, just to make them look a little bit different.

Along with Karanak, Hound of Vengeance, I now have three Khorne Daemon Champions that can lead units of daemons in 40K or lead Regiments of daemons in Age of Sigmar.

All of the Khorne Daemons, so far... These WERE all useable in both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. I'm not sure about Karanak at the moment. I have a feeling a straight Chaos Daemon army may soon be a thing of the past and daemons will only be allowed in the aligned Heretic Astartes chapter armies...

At SOME point (like, when ALL the Khorne stuff I have is all done...) it might be fun to pick up a Skulltaker or Skullmaster - just to have some different looking Daemon champions. The skullmaster is mounted on a Juggernaught and could lead the Bloodcrushers...

Of course... If I got ALL the other Khorne stuff done, I might just break down and buy myself a BLOODTHIRSTER!!

The Khorgorath! This isn't technically a daemon... they're mortal beasts that have been corrupted and mutated into horrifying creatures utterly consumed with rage!

(But I'll likely use this as a "Greater Daemon" for the Armageddon Crusade Campaign!)

The Khorgorath came with the Big Khorne Horde I traded for just over a year ago! It's been mostly painted for almost that entire time... SO CLOSE, I just haven't been able to remove it from the workbench!? Now that I have a big pile of Khorne things (and there was a potential use for it!) I finally got around to finishing it up!

All of the Blades of Khorne, so far...

The rest of the Daemons are coming along very nicely. I started batch painting the whole lot... but now I just have to finish up details, and that I'll do unit by unit. I'll probably finish up the Khorne Dogs (Flesh Hounds) first, then the Bloodletters and finally the Bloodcrushers (three of which I never finished from the Wrath and Rapture box I picked up six years ago!?)

I've also slid a few more Blades of Khorne items onto the workbench (Mighty Lord of Khorne, Skullreapers, Bloodsecrator, and Bloodstoker). Not sure if these SHOULD be priorities right now... but while I'm riding the red tide, I might as well see if I can't get a few more done.

I'm a little bit alarmed by how many of these are just not available on the Warhammer Website anymore... The Khorgorath, Bloodsecrator, and Bloodstoker are all no longer available. Previously they were only available in the "Start Collecting" boxes - and those are gone - will they be rereleased in new boxes with the new Battletome? Will they be getting updated models? Will they just be gone!? Replaced with other models!?

Stay tuned for Moar Khorne Kraziness!!

(or maybe a Warhammer Quest game report!)

Return of the Soroibus Tortus

With the new Codex: Emperor's Children, I've had to massively reorganize my old Emperor's Children force - that was organized using the rules in the previous edition's Chaos Space Marines Codexes... Really, it was a bit disappointing how much things changed.

In previous editions, Noise Marines, if taken in a force with the Emperor's Children key words, they were considered Troops or Battleline - your basic troops that you can take as many as you want of (or six units, instead of just three, in the most recent edition) and they could be in units of five to ten...

In the current edition Noise Marines are fielded in units of six (no more, no less - which makes sense, being the magic number of Slaanesh!) but are NOT BATTLELINE!! Meaning I can only take a MAXIMUM of THREE units of these - a grand total of eighteen Noise Marines!?

While they weren't all painted, I already had THIRTY Noise Marines!? Then I got twelve more in the Champions of Slaanesh box set!?

What am I to do with all these Noise Marines!?

I haven't decided ultimately what will happen to ALL of them... but for the time being, I've decided to rebase the ones I've painted (as they are now fielded on 40mm bases!?) and painted up any of the older ones I need to fill out three units of six of the older models as fast as I can and use those...

What will I do with the dozen other old ones I have...?! I don't know....

What will I do with the dozen NEW ones I have...? I don't know... I could just sell them while the Noise Marines are still popular..? Or just keep them around and paint them for funsies... or paint them to replace the old ones (eventually)

For now, however, I've painted two of the older ones to add to the Soroibus Tortus...

The two new ones...

Soroibus Tortus Noise Marines

The unit was inspired by the American heavy metal band Twisted Sister and the costumes they wore on the cover of The Best of the Atlantic Years album...

Sometimes when coming up with names for 40K, I just latinize them, sort of... I'm not sure how I got to Sororibus Tortas...  I'm guessing it was based on Torta (Twisted?) and Soror (Sister)...?

I could have gone with Perversa Sorore... or Fraternitas Torta... or Fraternitas Perversa!? Alas... Sticking with the original name I came up with for them!

I have three or four more of the older Noise Marines to finish up to complete the three units...

When they're done, I could potentially field 740 points of stuff...

  • Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (1)  195 pts
  • Lord Exultant (1) 80 pts
  • Sorcerer (1) 60 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
Here's what I've done so far..

That's an OLD Keeper of Secrets I'm using as my Daemon Prince of Slaanesh. the Daemon Prince of Slaanesh I now armed with an infernal cannon... Not sure I wonder if I should convert that to have something shooty like...?

Or... maybe that dangly bit I added between their legs could be the Infernal Cannon... I mean... It IS Slaanesh we're talking about here!?

The Six Sweet Sultry Saturday Seductions of Slaanesh

(try saying THAT six times, quickly!)

I have been waiting for an Emperor's Children codex for YEARS... It was some time during 8th edition that I got it in my head that I should just play CHAOS. I hate having to play my Imperial Guard against other Imperial forces - and there are a LOT of people out there with Imperial forces (between all the marines and guard and Mechanicus and knights, etc). Playing Eldar there is always the possibility of playing against Eldar... (I was still thinking in terms of playing at tournaments at this point). Chaos seemed fun and colourful and they'll fight ANYONE - even OTHER CHAOS forces. So I started working on an Emperor's Children force using the generic Chaos Space Marines codex (only Deathguard and Thousand Sons had their own, at that point).

And I waited... and waited... and WAITED...

You could play Emperor's Children (sort of) with the Chaos Space Marines... There were Noise Marines (or, rather, you could hunt down old metal ones on Ebay, or buy a conversion kit to convert regular Chaos Space Marines into Noise Marines...) I did a bit of both and amassed THIRTY of them!? Normally they were "elites" but if you were running Emperor's Children, they became TROOPS!

In Ninth Edition, I THINK there were similar rules... I was playing less during ninth edition and so I didn't buy the Chaos Space Marines codex when it came out... I was REALLY hoping there'd be an Emperor's Children codex eventually... but there wasn't... (World Eaters got their own Codex during Ninth Edition!)

I've been playing even lass during tenth edition...

So when they hinted at the end of 2024 that there'd be Emperor's Children in 2025, I... wasn't THAT stoked. I was happy they were finally doing that... but I hadn't played in almost a year and was VERY interested in Age of Sigmar at the moment.

When they previewed the new minis earlier this year and started dropping hints about the codex and rules and a launch box... I waffled. I didn't really think I'd get to painting and playing with them, as I was still super focused on Age of Sigmar... I did think about MAYBE picking up the launch box...? They are usually INCREDIBLE deals... it would get me the Codex and some of the new minis... I wasn't sure if I really NEEDED any as I have QUITE A BIT of Chaos stuff... and... like THIRTY Noise Marines....

I noted at one point the Noise Marines were going to be sold (and fielded) in units of six, which wasn't a problem, because conveniently thirty is easily divisible by six! Instead of six units of five (or three units of ten). I'd have five units of six (or, presumably, two units of twelve and a unit of six...). Easy Peasy...

I saw the announcement that it would be coming up for pre-order the following week three weeks ago, and I still wasn't sure... I saw it went up for pre-order two weeks ago and, at that point decided maybe I should pick it up! I'll get back to playing 40K at some point and if ever I think I'd want the new Noise Marine figures, maybe I should. So I contacted my local FLGS and asked if they'd set aside one of the ones they got in for me... and they said all the ones they were getting were spoken for.

(This has never happened before... for every other game that sold out online within an hour of pre-orders going live - Blackstone Fortress, Cursed City, a few of the Kill Team boxes, etc - I always got a copy! Mind you, I usually asked about them weeks before the pre-orders go live...)

I checked online and the Warhammer website sold out within minutes. I checked a half-dozen Canadian online retailers, and they'd all sold out as well...

I snoozed... I losed...

At that point I decided this was the universe telling me just to give up on it and paint my damned Aeldari if I wanted to work on 40K stuff...

So, I let it go and moved on...

And ordered a BUNCH of World War Two miniatures...

Somehow, even though it's been over a year, completely forgot that WE HAVE A WARHAMMER STORE in Saskatoon now and, despite the fact that the Mail Order pre-order sold out... the STORES would be getting copies... and I completely forgot about that until Friday evening...

...when the local Warhammer Store posted this on their facebook page!!

I had a hard time getting to sleep friday night as I was so annoyed with myself for not having thought of that!? And also there was a bit of me that still kind-of wanted to go and get one... but also a large part of me wished I'd never seen that and was really happy to have moved onto Bolt Action and returned to World War Two gaming and just wanted to let it go...

I mentioned it to Amanda in the morning and I didn't even propose the idea getting, I just mentioned that the store had some and I felt silly that I hadn't thought of that and recognized that I'd moved on and spent the money on other things....

And she said I should just go get one..!?

So Saturday morning I rode out to the Warhammer Store!

And just before noon, I bought the last of the six copies they had!

I pedalled home as fast as I could and like a little kid at Xmas I  tore into that box!

So many fun things!

Fancy cards... though... it didn't seem like there were a lot of them...?

Fancy new Special Edition Codex... started flipping through it.

There are not a LOT of Data Sheets (or whatever they're called now)... a LOT of the stuff I have is NOT in the book... Uggggghhhh.... am I STILL going to have to buy the Chaos Space Marine book to field all my things!? Where's he page that says what other chaos things I can take that are in the Chaos Space Marine book...?

(There is NOT such a page...)

My Emperor's Children force went from this... (yeah, there's still a lot that needs painting... )

  • Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour (1) 95 pts
  • Heretic Astartes Daemon Prince (1) 180 pts
  • Sorcerer (1) 60 pts
  • Master of Possession (1) 80 pts
  • Fabius Bile (2) 85 pts
  • Accursed Cultists (8) 105 pts
  • Cultist Mob (10) 55 pts
  • Cultist Mob (20) 110 pts
  • Dark Commune (5) 65 pts
  • Fellgor Beastmen (10) 95 pts (which I forgot to include in the picture...)
  • Noise Marines (10) 170 pts
  • Noise Marines (10) 170 pts
  • Noise Marines (10) 170 pts
  • Raptors (5)  90 pts
  • Chaos Terminator Squad (10) 390 pts
  • Obliterators (2) 180 pts
  • Traitor Guardsmen Squad (10) 70 pts (which I forgot to include in the picture...)
  • Traitor Guardsmen Squad (10) 70 pts (which I forgot to include in the picture...)
  • Traitor Guardsmen Squad (10) 70 pts (which I forgot to include in the picture...)
  • Venomcrawler (1) 120 pts

Total: 2430 pts!

to this... HALF the stuff I have... no longer playable as Emperors Children...

  • Lord Exultant (Old Chaos Lord) (1) 85 pts
  • Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (1) 195 pts (the old Keeper of Secrets)
  • Sorceress 70 pts
  • Tormentors (old Chaos Space Marines - with bolters and plasma guns) (10) 190
  • Infractors (old Chaos Space Marines - with bolter pistols and close combat weapons) (5) 95 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Noise Marines (6) 135 pts
  • Chaos Terminators (5) 175 pts
  • Chaos Terminators (5) 175 pts

Total: 1390 pts

(plus the stuff that came in the new box... that adds another 465 points)

Also, if I take one type of Detachment, I can add all sorts of Daemons of Slaanesh - which I have a LOT of!

DOH!!

(Oh, they can all still be used in 40K... just not as Emperor's Children, I'd have to pick up the Chaos Space Marine codex and field them as Black Legion or some other "generic" Chaos Space Marine force... Am I going to DO that... probably not anytime soon!)

AND THEN!

Hang on a moment... NOISE MARINES AREN'T "BATTELINE"!??!

THEY CAN ONLY BE FIELDED IN UNITS OF SIX!

So.... I went from being able to field units of 5-20 in Eight Edition... and as many units as I could stuff into a detachment... to units of 5-10 in ninth edition (could still do it with the thirty I had!) and could still do so at the beginning of tenth (and, presumably the current 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines Codex still allows it - though I expect an errata will change that with the release of the Emperor's Children). I never picked it up, but I assume there may have been a similar rule that if you were playing Emperor's Children, noise marines would be battleline (therefore allowing you to take up to six units of ten...)

But now they are definitely no longer Battleline... and just have the six in each unit and cannot be reinforced (to twelve)... So in an Emperor's Children army according to this now codex, I can only field EIGHTEEN Noise Marines...

I now have FORTY-TWO of them!?

FML...

I guess this falls under BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!!?

Also the new Noise Marines look like they are going to be HUGE - they will dwarf the old ones... Heck, they look like they're going to dwarf my old Terminator!?

Do I keep the old ones and just play with those (and put them on the bigger 40mm bases)!? Sell off the new ones? Or build and paint the new ones and retire the old ones...? Or use one unit of three of them... Hang onto the others in hopes there are Apocalypse rules at some point in the future again!?

I'll admit I was a little disappointed upon this realization, but I am not despairing.

I am trying to stay mostly focused on finishing up forces for Bolt Action. I did assemble the Lord Exultant.

Age of Sigmar - Chaos Sorceress on Daemonic Mount

I picked up this miniatures years ago. I found it at my FLGS, it was old even then! I'd hoped I could use it with my fledgling Slaanesh Daemons/Slaves to Darkness force... alas... there were no warscrolld for Chaos Sorcerer(esse)s on steeds (other than a Manticore..? I think...?).

I picked up a copy of Season of War: Thondia last summer when all the Third Edition books went on deep discount sale - and found there was an section called Anvil of Apotheosis, wherein you could make CUSTOM heroes for just about any faction in the game for play in Narrative or Open Play games... there were SO MANY options you could give to your heroes... and you could put them on a mount! I hoped they'd do something similar in the Narrative expansion books for the new edition... but i seems they're putting them in the Battletomes... and with less options for customization... which was a little bit disappointing... But, on the plus side, Slaves to Darkness was one of the first Battletomes and, despite the lack of fun upgrades specific to wizards, I can now field a Chaos Sorceress on a Daemonic Mount for 150 points in Narrative Play/Paths to Glory games!

Shalayla Daemonkist, the Enraptured Reveller of the Lacerating Titillations - Chaos Sorcererss (on Daemonic Mount!)

I think the upgrades I'll be doing with are:

  • Chaos Sorcerer Lord - 2 Destiny Points
  • Daemonic Steed -5 Destiny Points
  • Weapon Master - 3 Destiny Points
  • Diabolic Strength - 3 Destiny Points
  • Grandfather's Blessing - 2 Destiny Points

Total: 15 Destiny Points - Aspiring Champion 150 points

Other than the basic Chaos Sorcerer Lord package... there wasn't much specifically to buff wizards...

I may swap in Bringer of Fire for either Weapon Master or Diabolic Strength...? Bringer of Fire seems a little more wizard-like... but it's only 2 Destiny Points and I wouldn't be using the full 15... ah well...

All the Slaves to Darkness so far...

Wow... I REALLY need some TROOPS for this force... so far it's pretty much Characters and monsters!

(I do have some Chaos Knights in the works!!)

(and the Darkoath Fellriders/Mounted Chaos Marauders are STILL there too!)

AND ANOTER MONSTER!?

Once I have the Chaos Knights done, I'll have a 1000 point force ready for Path to Glory!

I'd hoped to get in a game with Orion this weekend, but it seems I've caught the cold Keiran brought home earlier in the week and mostly just want to sleep... bah!

We'd been planning to try out Five Men in Normandy or Five Men at Kursk... (as she has already painted a squad or two of the WW2 Americans I traded her earlier in the week!!) Perhaps I'll use the down time to refresh my memory of the rules by playing through the second game in the Five Men in Normandy Solo Campaign I'd started last year!

Age of Sigmar - Slaves to Darkness - Faction Update

I'd kind of wanted to assemble all the miniatures for all the faction and then take pictures so it would be clear finished/painted versus still-to-do/unpainted, but there was no way I'd be able to assemble ALL of the unassembled miniatures for this faction and be able to post it this month... or maybe even next month... or this QUARTER!? There is a LOT to DO!

This is what I have and what I still need to do for my Slaves to Darkness force as of the beginning of January 2025...

Painted

These are all the Slaves to Darkness that I have finished!

A little heavy on Monsters and Heroes at the moment... but, as it turns out, if I finish off ONE of the Darkoath Fellriders, I'll have a playable force of EXACTLY 1000 points ready for Path to Glory...

Still to DO!

This is all the Slaves to Darkness I still have to do...

It's a lot...

Heroes

  • Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Daemonic Steed (1) 150 - Any Slaves to Darkness (Anvil of Apotheosis)

  • Corvus Cabal (9) 100 - Infantry

Endless Spells

  • The Darkfire Daemonrift
  • The Eightfold Doom-Sigil

Quite a LOT to do... I probably don't have to do it ALL right away...

I have that unit of the Corvus Cabal to do - originally a Warcry warband, they were a unit in Age of Sigmar in 3rd edition, but have been taken out of production and moved into Legends... there are only nine in the box... but I do have the bonus Darkoath Marauder from the Free Miniature of the Month... I thought perhaps I might just spread them out among the Darkoath Marauder units... and call them Marauders...?

When it's ALL DONE

All the stuff together. Clearly a lot MORE To Do than Done!!

When I am done, though, I should be able to field...

Chaos Sorcerer Lord General's Regiment

  • Hero - Chaos Sorcerer Lord (1)  120 - 0-1 Ruinous Champion, 0-1 Monster, Any Warriors of Chaos
  • Ruinous Champion - Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount (1) 160 - 0-1 Ruinous Champion, 0-1 Monster, Any Warriors of Chaos - This Hero can join an eligible regiment as a Ruinous Champion

  • Unit - Darkoath Marauders (20) 160 -  Darkoath, Infantry

Total: 540

Army Total: 3110!?

Perhaps I went a bit overboard with these...

Options! I just have a LOT of OPTIONS!!

I can take the Chaos Sorcerer Lord General's Regiment and the Darkoath Cavalry Regiment... and that's 1950 points right there! And it's (almost) entirely MOUNTED!! Only the Chaos Sorcerer Lord and Darkoath Wilderfiend won't be mounted... (Unless I'm just playing a Narrative Play game and using the Anvil of Apotheosis Chaos Sorcerer Lord on a Daemonic Mount! which would bring the total to 1970 points!!)

THE PLAN

The plan IS to work on these and the Soulblight Gravelords for the first part of the year.

The priorities in this force will be:

1) one unit of five Darkoath Fellriders - so I can have a 1000-point Path to Glory army... going to try and get that ready by the weekend!!

Darkoath Cavalry Regiment

  • Hero - Darkoath Chieftain on Warsteed (1) 130 - 0-1 Oathsworn, 0-1 Monster, Any Darkoath - This Hero can join an eligible regiment as an Oathsworn.
  • Unit - Darkoath Fellriders (5) 150 - Darkoath, Cavalry

Monsterous Regiment

  • Hero - Ogroid Myrmidon (1)  150 - Any Ogroid Theridons,Any Monster, Any Daemon - This Hero can join an eligible regiment as a Ruinous Champion.
  • Unit - Fomoroid Crusher (1) 120 - Monster
  • Unit - Mindstealer Sphiranx 1 170 - Monster
Army Total: 1000

B) The Darkoath Warqueen, the Darkoath Savagers, and ten of the Darkoath Marauders - so I can have a Spearhead army to theoretically play with (in case anyone wanted to play Spearhead again!?)

iii) Get working on ALL THE CHAOS KNIGHTS, and ALL THE DARKOATH FELLRIDERS!!! for that massive all-cavalry horde!! MWA-HA-HA-Ha-Ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa.....!

STUFF TO GET!?

Is there really ANYTHING I could still possibly want to get for this force!?

Um...

I mean, maybe... at some point...

For now, I'm totally good! But maybe next year, or after I've gotten all (or at least MOST!) of the stuff I have painted, there are a few things I might consider picking up for fun...

The Centaurian Marshall looks really cool (and fits with the mounted theme of the force!)

Maybe the Chaos Beasts (Furies and Raptoyrx) they'd be fun for small encounters in the role-playing game or usefull in skirmish games...

There are a few other monsters that look fun; the Mutalith Vortex Beast or Slaughterbrute (same model kit, that can be built different ways!)

I'm not sure I care at all about Be'lakor, the Dark Master, first of the Daemon Princes... or Archaon, the Everchosen... or even the Varangard (despite the mounted theme to the force!)

Maybe a Daemon Prince... because that could be used in 40K as well!

Also, if I could track down a unit of the Unmade (another Warcry warband) I'd love some of those!

Side Note

I also have this assortment of old metal Chaos figures - in vasious stages of painting/repainting... Some will probably just be used in role-playing games... but I think it would be fun to work some of them into the battle game...

I could use the Sorcerer as is (or maybe rebase it to 40mm base (the current size for Chaos Sorcerers... but add some other elements because it will look like a tiny figure on a 40mm base all alone!)

The unit of Disciples of the Red Redemption (which I have pained purple...) I might rebase onto 28mm bases and just call them Darkoath Marauders!?

OTHER PLAN...!?

Of course... just after I initially posted this... I got thinking about things and realized there was ANOHER option to finish up a 1000 point force for the Path to Glory campaign!? THIS one makes use of the Anvil of Apotheosis Hero from the Claves to Darkness Battletome!?

Chaos Sorcerer Lord General's Regiment

  • Hero - Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Daemonic Steed (1) 150 - Any Slaves to Darkness (Anvil of Apotheosis)
  • Ruinous Champion - Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount (1) 160 - 0-1 Ruinous Champion, 0-1 Monster, Any Warriors of Chaos - This Hero can join an eligible regiment as a Ruinous Champion
  • Unit Chaos Knights (5)  250 - Warriors of Chaos, Cavalry

Total: 560

Monstrous Regiment

  • Hero - Ogroid Myrmidon (1)  150 - Any Ogroid Theridons, Any Monster, Any Daemon - This Hero can join an eligible regiment as a Ruinous Champion.
  • Unit - Fomoroid Crusher (1) 120 - Monster
  • Unit - Mindstealer Sphiranx 1 170 - Monster

Total: 440

Army Total: 1000

Advantages... only TWO regiments... not-so-much to paint... I get to use the actual Mounted Chaos Sorcerer Lord!

Disadvantages... not a lot of boots-on-the-ground to hold objectives...? (I guess it's really only four less hooves on the ground, as it removes the Darkoath Chieftan on Warsteed and five Darkoath Fellriders, and replaces them with five Chaos Knights... so one less model...)

So maybe this week I'll be assembling and painting five Chaos Knights!? (and finishing up the Mounted Chaos Sorcerer Lord!?

Oh... TECHNICALLY I may have to reorganize that...

While the Anvil of Apotheosis Sorcerer Lord does say ANY Slaves to Darkness... it does not specify that it can include a Ruinous Champion, like the regular Chaos Sorcerer Lord... so, if someone was being a stickler... I would have to organize it thusly...

Chaos Sorcerer Lord General's Regiment

  • Hero - Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Daemonic Steed (1) 150 - Any Slaves to Darkness (Anvil of Apotheosis)
  • Unit - Chaos Knights (5)  250 - Warriors of Chaos, Cavalry
  • Unit - Mindstealer Sphiranx 1 170 - Monster

Total: 570

Monstrous Regiment

Age of Sigmar - Chaos Sorcerer Lord

I also managed to finish off the Chaos Sorcerer Lord! This is the 2024 Warhammer Day Commemorative Miniature - Tzarketh, Bane of Law.... I'll just be using it as a Generic Chaos Sorcerer...

Chaos Sorcerer

I also have an old metal MOUNTED Chaos Sorcerer... which I could use as a Chaos Sorcerer (that's on an oversized base) - it doesn't go faster and have more Health like most mounted models as both rider and steed are old and decrepit... Or if we're playing Paths to Glory, I can use an Anvil of Apotheosis Sorcerer - there are rules for giving it a Deamonic Steed mount... so that's pretty cool...

The Slaves to Darkness Force, so far...

I REALLY need to get working on some TROOPS!!!

Here's what I have painted so far!

Heroes

  • Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount (1) 160
  • Chaos Sorcerer Lord (1) 120
  • Ogroid Myrmidon (1)  150
  • Darkoath Chieftain on Warsteed (1) 130

Heroes Total: 560

Units

  • Fomoroid Crusher (1) 120
  • Mindstealer Sphiranx (1) 170

Units Total: 290

Legends Units

  • Khagra’s Ravagers (4) 170

Legends Units Total: 170

FORCE TOTAL: 1020 points

Long way to go...

But on my list of things to do for 2025 Q1 is finish a Spearhead and Path to Glory force for the Slaves to Darkness... so that's going to be a whole LOT of mounted - Chaos Knights and Darkoath Fellriders (and a few Darkoath Marauders and Savagers - for the Spearhead Army!)

Age of Sigmar - Slaves to Darkness - Darkoath Chieftain on Warsteed

And this is the leader of the Darkoath Cavalry - following hot on the heels of the Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount

I really need to get some TROOPS done for them to command!

Darkoath Chieftain on  Warsteed

This guy is PREPARED... so much stuff strapped to his horse... kind of reminds me of the Long Range Desert Group in WW2 with their trucks festooned with all sorts of kit and gear... Okay, I'm not sure all the freaking HEADS are necessarily PRACTICAL gear... but....

FML - before I could even take a picture of it, I dropped it on the floor and broke off his sword army and the staff at his back... Glued back on, now, but... damn...

And now I have THREE Heroes (Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount, Darkoath Chieftain on  Warsteed, and Ogroid Myrmidon), two Monsters (Mindstealer Sphiranx and Fomoroid Crusher) and ONE unit - a Legends Warhammer Underworlds warband (Khagra's Ravagers - plus a bonus Chaos Warrior hanger on, that was the Free-Miniauture-of-the-Month a few months ago!?). Oh, and one endless spell, without a wizard to summon it... (I don't think Zarshia counts..?)

TIME TO DO SOME TROOPS for them to lead!!

(or another monster!? I do have a Darkoath Wilderfiend assembled!)

After I finish the last of the Warhammer Quest stuff (two of the heroes are complete! I'll be posting them next!) and Nighthaunts and Sylvaneth... I'll be working on Slaves to Darkness and Soulblight Gravelords!

Age of Sigmar - Slaves to Darkness - Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount

I finished this a few days ago and didn't get to posting it because I'd wanted to try to type out a bunch of the background fluff I've had percolating (festering?) in my brain for the last three years - and at least come up with a NAME for the leader of my Slaves to Darkness forces... but I'm realizing that's going to take a while, and I kind of just want to post some pictures and move on...

I WILL get to typing up some of the fluff at some point. The short version is there is a woman under all that armour. The host is matriarchal and the Chaos "Lord" and Chaos Sorcerer "Lord" and all the Chaos Knights are female... I've dreamed up some other administrative structural ideas... but that's the core of it..

Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount

I added a little braid of hair hanging out from under the helmet in an attempt to make it a tad more feminine on appearance...?

I don't know... Chaos LORD doesn't seem quire right for a female leader... but calling it Chaos LADY on a Daemonic Mount doesn't sit right either... Darkoath tribes call their female leaders "QUEENS"...?

The blue and orange fur is from a beast that stalks the Northern Steppes of the Parch in Aqshy where the hose hails from. As a rite of passage the prospective chaos knights must hunt one down armed only with their chaos blade (and no armour!)

I have not names the beast, yet... I was thinking someting like Fell-Lion...? I don't know. Open to suggestions here...

The original models left army was a large tentacle (and may have split into two?) but because I'd originally intended that the host be worshipers of some aspect of Slaanesh, I carved it off and added a spare claw from a Daemonette of Slaanesh

The entire Slaves to Darkness host... so far... Which is a bit sad, I need to get working on these!!

I do actually have one more model nearly finished. Well... it WAS finished, then I decided I needed to change a detail on it... I shall post that in the next day or two...

Then I'll need to concentrate on finishing up the last of the Warhammer Quest stuff and then the last of the Sylvaneth and Nighthaunts... THEN I'm going to do a BUNCH of assembling. I have the Soulblight Gravelords Spearhead army that I never got around to assembling, save the Vampire Lord in that box (also a female figure... and called "Lord"... maybe I'll just stick with that...) and then I have ALL THE SLAVES TO DARKNESS I need to assemble.

I have 10 Knights, 30 Mounted Marauders/Darkoath Fellriders, 10 Darkoath Savagers, 9 Corvus Cabal, and 30 Darkoath Marauders. Of those I have assembled two Knights and five of the Mounted Marauders - and the Darkoath War Queen and Chaos Sorcerer Lord and Darkoath Chieftain on Warsteed (this is the one that's kind of, sort of done). Oh, I also have an OLD metal mounted Chaos Sorcerer Lord - that I was trying to do a bit of a conversion on... I should get to THAT ONE too, now that the Battletome it out and I can actually field a MOUNTED Chaos Sorcerer Lord - at least in Path to Glory/Narrative games using the Anvil of Apotheosis (rules for creating custom characters!)

Age of Sigmar - Endless Spells of Chaos

I've picked up two boxes of Endless Spells - one for the Hedonites of Slaanesh and one for the Slaves to Darkness. I've finished one of the Slaves to Darkness ones and two of the Hedonites. I thought I'd wait until all three of one or the other were finished... but that may be a while... so here are the ones that are done!

All the Endless Spells: The Realmscourge Rupture (Slaves to Darkness) and The Wheels of Excruciation and The Dreadful Visage (both Hedonites of Slaanesh)

The Realmscourge Rupture

Other side of the Realmscourge Rupture (because it's much clearer what's going on...)

The Wheels of Excruciation

The Dreadful Visage

I have a few wizards among the Hedonites that can be fielded and summon these onto the battlefield... but I'll need to finish up a Chaos Sorcerer to summon the The Realmscourge Rupture!

At some point I'd like to pick up the Judgements of Khorne - which are TOTALLY NOT SPELLS.... because MAGIC BAD!!! (but are, effectively, endless spells summoned by a Slaughter Priest)

The Sylvaneth endless spells also look really cool... and he Malign Portents collection of Endless Spells look amazing - and would give my Soulblight Gravelords (or Nighthaunt!?) some Endless Spells they could use (and give me a Suffocating Gravetide model i could use in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City, instead of that silly little cardboard token!)

Alas... None of those are likely to happen any time SOON... Maybe once I have some more Slaves to Darkness completed... and at least 1000 points of Blades of Khorne and Sylvaneth and Nighthaunt done... and some actual TROOPS for the Soulblight Gravelord (I can't set a point level benchmark for the Soulblights, because I already have over 1500 points already done... but nearly 1000 of them are HEROES... I actually need UNITS of troops to fill out the army!)

Saturday Shopping Adventure

This past Saturday I did a bit of riding in the snow. Most of the snow on the ground Saturday had fallen earlier in the week (or the week before?) and so most paths and roads had been cleared (or were very packed down) and riding was pretty good. The following day we got a big dump of wet snow that ended up being slush on the ground... and then the temperature dropped overnight leaving everthing super bumpy and slippery... or flat and slippery - where people had bothered to clear it away before it froze solid, making it pretty treacherous out there!

Anyway... Satuday...

First I rode out to the Warhammer store to pick up a few things...

Squig Mega-Hoody and a Gryph-Hound plushie.

Both were a bit of an extravagance... I was going for the Mega-Hoody, and the Gryph-hound was a bit more of an impulse buy to get this month's collectable coin (and also to use as an Underdog Token - should I ever get to play Warhammer Underworlds again!?)

I gotta say, the Squig-Mega-Hoody is the biggest, fluffiest, warmest hoody EVER!?

And Amanda has her Unicorn Onesie for lounging in... why not get myself a Squig-Mega-Hoody. I think it might be one Keiran had and got rid of and Amanda decided to keep... and is actually a bit small for Amanda...? She likes it, though, so who am I to judge!?

(I'd actually suggested getting TWO so we could be one of those gross old couples that have matching clothes... but, like, ironically...? Also, then we'd also be a SQUIG HERD!!! But she decided her Unicorn Onesie was fine)

(any guesses how long the terminally-cold Amanda steals MY Squig-Mega-Hoody!?)

While I was there I also picked up the Free Miniature-of-the-Month - a Skaven Stormvermin - and the December Collectible Coin - Embergard.

I've ended up with four of these collectible coins. I know some people use them as objective markers. I've seen people use them for activation tokens, which is a cool idea... but it'd be fun to have matching ones.. There's no way I'm about to spend another $360 at the warhammer store to get three more Embergard ones!? for starters... there isn't that much I'm interested in... Also... Amanda might murder me! Maybe someone might trade though...?

and then I rode to the Dragon's Den to pick up a few more things...

New Slaves to Darkness Battletome, the new Slaves to Darkness Darkoath Spearhead army, and the two new rivals decks for Warhammer Underworlds...

Unfortunately, the Warbands of Embergard Card Set did NOT show up... and is currently out of stock (and maybe needing to be reprinted?!). So... that's fifteen of my warbands that I can't currently play...

This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that I've been waiting OVER TWO WEEKS for Staples to print off the OTHER ONES!?

So annoying...

There is an "Anvil of Apotheosis" section in the Slaves to Darkness battletome - a section to build custom heroes! There are options for a Chaos Lord, a Sorcerer, a Darkoath leader, AND a Ogroid... I'd been pretty excited about this since I saw the Anvil of Apotheosis in Season of War: Thondia... the options are... rather LIMITED by comparison... But, the good news is, I WILL be able to field the old Mounted Sorcerer miniature I have - with official rules!! (At least in Paths to Glory, which is really all I'm interested in playing!)

More on this in a bit....

I have a BUNCH of miniature I've finished painting and haven't posted yet... mostly because none of them really go with each other, so I've been waiting to finish up a few more of each type or faction to post together... but maybe I'll just start posting them, spread out over the week... and leave the ones likely to be added to until later in the week...

Next, however, is Part Two of LAST WEEK'S Warhammer Quest adventure!
