These are all of my Warhammer Underworlds Warbands. I will be updating this as I finish up new warbands (and... um... buy new ones...!?).
I kind of fell into Warhammer Underworlds bass-akwards... and then went ALL IN. I'd been aware of it since it came out as a friend of mine got into it from the beginning and i painted a bunch of warbands for him.
At the end of 2020 I picked up my first Warband - Morgwaeth's Balde-Coven - on Boxing Day at my FLGS - Dragon's Den Games, in Saskatoon. I picked them up for a few reasons. One was just to have ONE Warhammer Underworlds warband, just in case I ever got around to playing it with my friend - It would be MY warband and the only one I'd play (and it was one I knew he didn't have). I was also putting together a small force of Daughters of Khaine for Age of Sigmar and I thought it might be fun to have a few different models. Also I thought they'd be a good core to build a Warcry warband around. Finally, I was interested in Age of Sigmar: Soulbound and thought these - and possibly other Warhammer underworlds warbands (especially the ones that had gone out of print and were being rereleased as cheaper easy-to-build kits) - might be a fun way to collect a smattering of different models from a variety of different factions without having to buy full units!
One thing lead to another and within WEEKS, I had a copy of Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm and was playing the game with Finnegan and Amanda. Beastgrave and Nightvault followed shortly after. I even found a used copy of Shadespire in the summer. By November of 2021, I also had the Two-Player Starter, Harrowdeep, and TWENTY-EIGHT different warbands!? Warhammer Underworlds ended up being one of my most-played games through 2021; 22 games. The only game we played more of was Wingspan - which we played 31 games of! Though Finnegan only played a few when I just started, and was coaxed into playing a three-player game later in the year, MOST of the games I played were with Amanda.
We played less games in 2022 (12) though I continued to buy more warbands and the Harrowdeep and Nightvault boxes... then played a few games at the end of 2022.. but not enough to justify buying into the new season (Gnarlwood).
At the end of 2023 I started playing games again, introducing the game to my friend Orion - who quickly jumped in and started playing games with her partner Nic. I picked up Wyrdhollow and Deathgorge at the 2023 Boxing Day sale at the Dragon's Den (figuring, at the time, I'd just let Gnarlwood go... but then tracked one down a few months later!).
Warhmmer Underworlds is looking like it is going to be one of my most played game through 2024 by far!

SHADESPIRE
Steelheart's Champions
Steelheart's Champions were one of the first two warbands released for Warhammer Underworlds - included in Shadespire - the very first box set for Warhammer underworlds. They were also rereleased as a Nightvault warband - and that it what I originally pick up... two of them... and then I got a third when I picked up a used copy of Shadespire...
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Steelheart's Champions
I also painted one of these, years ago for a friend when he first picked Shadespire when it was first released, you can see those here:
Stormcast Eternals Warband for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire
Garrek's Reavers
Garrek's Reavers
This was the one I kept for myself, but the later traded it away for a Chaos Gargant and the Chosen Axes
You can see both of the ones I speed-painted here (Including the one given to Finnegan to use with the rest of his Blood Reavers - which I painted up at the same time):
Khorne Bloodreavers and Tzeentch Horrors
I also painted one of these, years ago for a friend when he first picked Shadespire when it was first released, you can see those here:
Sepulchral Guard
The Sepulchral Guard were released as part of the Shadespire roll-out in the "first season". Came with the same used copy of Shadespire as Magore's Fiends above. It had been completely painted... so I mostly just touched these up and made them look a little more like the other warbands I have...
Unfortunately, since they were rereleased in one of the Two-Player Starter Sets, the cards I have for them are no longer valid for any sort of organized play...
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Sepulchral Guard
I also painted one of these for John some time ago, you can see them here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire - Sepulchral Guard
Ironskull's Boyz
Ironskull’s Boyz - one of the warbands from "Season One" (Shadespire) - this warband I picked up in the same used lot as Sepulchral Guard and Magore's Fiends above.
More pics here:
This is another warband that I'd painted a copy earlier for my friend John. You can see those here:
Spiteclaw's Swarm
Coming Soon! (Thanks to the Rivals of the Mirrored City Box!)
I also painted one of these for John some time ago, you can see them here:
The Chosen Axes
Finally managed to track down a copy of my own!
The Chosen Axes!
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - The Chosen Axes
I also painted a warband for John a while back:
Magore's Fiends
Magore's Fiends!
This is their current state.. I recently rebased them to match all the other minis in my Blades of Khorne army.
This is how they originally looked.
ANOTHER Khorney Chaos Warband. I bought a used copy of Shadespire and this warband (along with a couple others) came with it.
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Magore’s Fiends
NIGHTVAULT
Thorns of the Briar Queen
Thorns of the Briar Queen came from the Nightvault box and I painted TWO of them (one for me, one for John) at the same time (as John bought two Nightvault boxes and gave me one in exchange for painting the two warbands in the box for him)
More pics (of both warbands) here:
I'll have a SECOND copy of The Thorns of the Briar Queen soon - thanks to the Rivals of the Mirrored City Box! I'll probably keep it and paint it up a little different. I'm pretty happy with the first one... but I could have some fun with these...
Stormsire's Cursebreakers
Stormsire's Cursebreakers are all battle-mages of the Sacrosanct Chamber. Yes - ALL THREE are mages - and inspire by successfully casting a spell. Stormsire's Cursebreakers were included in the Nightvault core-box along with the Thorns of the Briar Queen.
More pics here (including the second team I painted for John):
Warhammer Underworlds: Stormsire's Cursebreakers
Zarbag's Gitz
Coming Soon! (Thanks to the Rivals of the Mirrored City Box!)
Chaos Gargant
The December 2018 issue of White Dwarf (just after the release of Nightvault) included a scenario for playing against a Chaos Gargant! I wasn't playing Warhammer Underworlds at the time, but I had that issue because I WAS playing Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress and that issue also had content for that!
The Chaos Gargant game looked fun so I initially just painted up a giant miniature I already had instead of getting an actual GW Gargant model to play it.
Jotun the Heroscape Giant - rebased and repainted for use as a Stand-in Chaos Gargant for Warhammer Underworlds!
Later I DID manage to acquire an actual GW Gargant model to use for the scenario...
Pics of that soon!
Mollog's Mob
Funny story... I thought these looked like a fun little warband... the Warhammer Underworlds warband was long out of print... but, as with MOST of the out-of-print Warhammer Underworlds warbands, they re-released as Easy-Build kits for Age of Sigmar - for a while, at least... but now those are gone. BUT!!! My Other Other Friend named Jon pointed out an online listing of Age of Sigmar stuff in Regina - the other city in Saskatchewan, in which he resides. There was piles and piles of Orc and Goblin and Troll stuff. The guy was getting rid of a MASSIVE army, which... I just don't need. One thing that did catch my eye, however, was the CARDS for Mollog's Mob. The guy had bought the Underworlds Warband to use the Troggoth in his Gloomspite Gitz Age of Sigmar army and just had the cards laying around. So I got Jon to pick those up for me (they were $5) and I ordered in the Easy-Build kit and *BOOM* now I have Mollog's Mob...
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Mollog's Mob
I'll have a SECOND copy of Mollog's Mob soon - thanks to the Rivals of the Mirrored City Box! I'll probably keep it and paint it up a little different. I'm pretty happy with the first one... but I could have some fun with these...

BEASTGRAVE
Grashrak's Despoilers
These are part of the Warhammer Underworlds: Beastgrave ("Season Three") core box... which was bought for me, by John, in exchange for painting some Frostgrave figures... which I haven't finished yet... so I feel kind of funny about painting these, if I haven't painted those yet... so... I should probably GET TO painting those!!!
Skaeth's Wild Hunt
Also came with Warhammer Underworlds: Beastgrave.
Still to do...
The Grymwatch
The Grymwatch - Ghouls of the Flesheater Courts - released as part of "Season Three" - Beastgrave.
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: The Grymwatch
Lady Harrow's Mournflight
Lady Harrow's Mournflight was originally released in Dreadfane - a simplified version of Warhammer Underworlds sold as a standalone in Barnes & Noble stores... then released as part of Beastgrave as Champions of Dreadfane - along with Ironsoul's Condemnors.
More pics here:
Ironsoul's Condemners
Ironsoul's Condemnors, the Third Stormcast Eternal warband I painted, are Sequitors of the Hammers of Sigmar. Sequitors are the line infantry of a Sacrosanct Chamber - the same chamber Stormsire's Cursebreakers hail from.
Ironsoul's Condemnors were originally included in the game Dreadfane - a simplified version of Warhammer Underworlds exclusively available through Barnes & Noble. The models and their cards were rereleased as part of the Beastgrave line in Champions of Dreadfane (along with Lady Harrow's Mournflight)
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Ironsoul's Condemnors
The Wurmspat
The Wurmspat - Nurgle Sorcerer Fecula Flyblown and her two bodyguards; Sepsimus and Ghulgoch! There were released as part of the Beastgrave (Season Three) line.
You can read more and see more pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: The Wurmspat
Hrothgorn's Mantrappers
Hrothgorn's Mantrappers include Hrothgorn, his loyal Frost Sabre Thrafnir, and an assortment of gnoblars of dubious use; Bushwakka, Quiv, and Luggit and Thwak.
See more pics of them here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Hrothgorn's Mantrappers
Morgwaeth's Blade-Coven
Morgwaeth's Blade-Coven - the very first Warhammer Underworlds warband I painted - for myself! I initially picked it up because I thought I'd be able to make use of it in Warcry and or Age of Sigmar... and also keep it as the ONE Warhammer Underworlds warband I'd have that would be MY warband... should I ever play the game... Then, in doing so, got sucked down the rabbithole of Warhammer underworlds.
Of course, once I introduced Amanda to the game, she quickly claimed Morgwaeth's and HERS and has almost exclusively played with them!
I even bought the fancy warband specific dice for them!
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Morgwaeth's Blade-Coven
Morgok's Krushas
Morgok's Krushas - three large and terrifying Ironjaw Orrucks. Released as part of Beastgrave.
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Morgok's Krushas
Fomoroid Crusher
At some point in 2020 Games Workshop released rules for a Warhammer Underworlds Solo scenario versus a Fomoroid Crusher. Not sure if it was initially in a White Dwarf or just posted to Warhammer Community - where I downloaded it from. This was the MAIN reason I bought the Fomoroid Crusher (though I can also use it in my Slaves to Darkness army - or any Chaos army as part of the Hargax's Pit Beasts Regiment of Reknown!)
I should probably get a picture of it on a Beastgrave Board!
DIRECHASM
The Dread Pageant
The Dread Pageant - Released in the "Season Four" Core Box - Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm. These were the second warband I painted - for myself, that is! I'd painted a bunch for my friend John - in fact, I got Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm - from whence these came, in exchange for painting two of his other Warhammer Underworlds warbands... strangely, I got into this, thinking I'd end up playing with him... and we've yet to play a game...
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: The Dread Pageant
Myari's Purifiers
Still to do... After Morgwaeth's Blade-Coven, the Direchasm box was the next thing I picked up... and I still haven't painted THESE... that's a little embarrassing...
Khagra's Ravagers
Khagra's Ravagers - another one of the early warbands I picked up - right when it came out in March 2021 and painted up straight away - I was very excited about Chaos stuff at the moment...
More pics here:
Starblood Stalkers
The one warband that i didn't pick up at the time it was available and have been kicking myself ever since... Now that Faction cards aren't going to be needed for 2nd Edition and new fighter cards and warscrolls will be available for free as PDFs, I went ahead and bought the set without cards!?
Still need to paint, though...
The Crimson Court
Still to do...
SUPER COOL looking Vampire Lords that I HAD to pick up as soon as they came out!
So cool were they, that there were more people that wanted them than my FLGS got! Luckily, I'd asked waaaaaaaay in advance, so I got a set.
So cool were they, that the other people that wanted them, locally, didn't even want them FOR Warhammer Underworlds... One wanted them for their Vampire Age of Sigmar army... another apparently wanted them to convert to Drukhari!?
Elathain's Soulraid
Soul-raiding murder aelves from deep under the sea!
Picked up when they came out... didn't get around to painting until the new Idonth Deepkin warband came out with Deathgorge and I painted them up together!
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Elathain's Soulraid
WARHAMMER UNDERWORLDS:
TWO-PLAYER STARTER SET
Right in the middle of all the Direchasm released, GW put out a Two-Player Starter set with two warbands that had previously been available as units of four press-fit models for Age of Sigmar - but NOT been previously released as Warhammer Underworlds Warbands - along with some reprinted boards from the Shadespire/Nightvault era. I present them here, AFTER the Direchasm warbands, even though they were released just after the Crimson Court...
Storm of Celestus
Storm of Celestus - yet ANOTHER Stormcast Eternal warband. These were released as part of the current Two-Player Starter - After Direchasm, before Waterdeep, with boards reprinted from Shadespire/Nightvault, and making use of Easy-Build miniatures that had previously been released... but not previously released as part of a Warhammer Underworlds set (also included were Drepur's Wraithcreepers).
I haven't actually painted the ones from the box... but because I had bought the previously released Easy-Build kit and painted those... I instantly had another useable Warband.
More pics here:
Drepur's Wraithcreepers
Viceroy Drepur and his Glaivewraiths attendants... These came with the Two-Player starter box that was released AFTER Direchasm, but included map boards that were reprinted from Shadespire and Nightvault.
You can see the original post (with more pics), here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Drepur’s Wraithcreepers
HARROWDEEP
Da Kunnin' Krew
A mix of Orruks, Gitz, and a hobgoblin!? Part of the Harrowdeep Starter Box.
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Da Kunnin' Krew
Xandire's Truthseekers
MORE Stormcast Eternals - part of the Harrowdeep Core Box.
More pictures of the warband here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Xandire's Truthseekers
Blackpowder's Buccaneers
Another Ogor! A PIRATE Ogor!? with a pet monkey and Dire Parrot and everything!?
More pictures here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Blackpowder's Buccaneers
The Exiled Dead
Still to do. Not sure why I even picked these ones up... but I have them and I'll get to them at SOME point!?
NETHERMAZE
At this point I was buying them out of habbit, but hadn't been playing for a while, but HOPED that maybe we WOULD...?!
Skittershank’s Clawpack
Still to do...
Yay! A new Skaven warband that was released with Nethermaze 2-player expansion/new starter box for Harrowdeep! I'm not AS excited about these and Spiteclaw's Swarm... but they're still pretty cool and look like fun... once I have them painted up!?
Shadeborn
Still to do... The Darker Dark Aelves... Elite sneaky minions of Morathi that were released with Nethermaze 2-player expansion/new starter box for Harrowdeep!
Hexbane’s Hunters
Still to do... Released as an expansion to... Nethermaze...? I'm a little confused, Is Nethermaze a new season...?! Maybe...
Gorechosen of Dromm
Still to do....
GNARLWOOD
The year that Gnarlwood and Wyrdhollow came out I wasnt playing and I didn't buy anything. All of these were acquired the following year when we started playing again.
The Gnarlspirit Pack
Still to do...
(Gnarlwood Core Box)
The Sons of Velmorn
Soulblight Gravelord skeletons from the Gnarlwood core box
More pictures here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Sons of Velmorn
Grinkkrak's Looncourt
Grinkrak's Looncourt - a band of seven annoying little gits. I picked these up as I;d finally given up hope that I'd ever find a copy of Zarbag's Gitz, and then they rereleased them in the Rivals of the Mirrored City... Ah,well... these are pretty fun too!
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Grinkrak's Looncourt
WYRDHOLLOW
Ephilim’s Pandaemonium
Tzeentch wizard and daemonic familiars from the Wyrdhollow Core Box!
I've been kind of sad about missing out one and never being able to track down a copy of the Eyes of Nine... but I have these now, so...
More pictures of the warband here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Ephilim's Pandaemonium
Domitan’s Stormcoven
Still to do...
MOAR Stormcast from the Wyrdhollow Core Box
The Headsmen's Curse
Still to do...
MOAR rats! (though these were the first Skaven warband I've painted for myself!).
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds - Skabbik's Plagepack
DEATHGORGE
It was just after Deathgorge came out that I started playing again. I'd been missing playing it and then when they previewed the Thricefold Discord... I knew it was time to get back into it - and get that warband!!!
Cyreni’s Razors
More Idoneth Deepkin from the Deathgorge Core Box
You can see more pictures here in the original post:
Warhammer Underworlds - Cyreni's Razors
Thricefold Discord
The Thricefold Discord - a trio of Slaanesh Daemons from the Deathgorge Core Box. The three absolutely HATE each other and inspire when bad stuff happens to the others!
The miniatures looked really interesting and the story behind them was so fun - it's literally what got me playing the game again.
More pics here:
Warhammer Underworlds: The Thricefold Discord
Zondra's Gravebreakers
Speaking of background stories... this one got me right in the feels and I knew I'd have to pick this one up as well... Zondra's love was cursed and turned into a beast. She searched everywhere and tried every sort of magiks to find a way to release her lover from the curse. That search lead her down some dark paths... including necromancy. Now she, along with her beastbound lover and three zombie assistants have come to the Deathgorge to look for some sort of relic she'd heard a rumour of that might be buried in the snow and ice.
More pictures of the warband here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Zondara's Gravebreakers
WINTERMAW
Brotherhood of the Bolt
Sigmarite Fanatics... from the Wintermaw Core Box
Still to do.
Skinnerkyn
A second warband of Ghouls of the Flesh-Eater Courts from the Wintermaw Core Box.
More pictures here:
Warhammer Underworlds: Skinnerkin (and other Ghouls!)
Grombrindal, The White Dwarf
In conjunction with the 500th issue of White Dwarf, GW released a special Grombrindal, The White Dwarf miniature and included rules for use in Age of Sigmar, Warcry, Warhammer Quest, AND WARHAMMER UNDERWORLDS!?
So, of course I bought that...
Grombrindal, the White Dwarf
There are a few more pictures here:
Grombrindal, the White Dwarf - Finished!
STUFF TO GET!?
At this point, as long as I'm still playing... I'll probably pick up most things as they come out - unless there's a warband that I'm just not loving (like Daggok's Stab-Ladz). The only other consideration is will I try to track down any of the others from previous seasons that I've missed out on...
There are a few I woudln't mind picking up, if I found some for a not-totally-unreasonable cost...
At one point I would have liked the Eyes of the Nine, though now that I've picked up Ephilim's Pandaemonium - part of the Wyrdhollow Core Box - I'm less concerned...
Rippa's Snarlfangs? Goblin Wolf Riders!? GOBLIN WOLF RIDERS!?!?
Now that they are $50+ each, I am less inclined to just try and GET THEM ALL!!!
As the Faction Decks are no longer needed for the warbands, the few older ones I didn't get, might be a touch easier to source. It will be interesting to see which ones they rerelease with the new edition - and if they'll be rotating through the older ones for rereleases.
