Ninja All-Stars: Yagyu Jubei

Well, the plan to paint one miniature every other day is not going great...

All I got done in the last week and a half is a solitary Ninja All-Stars miniature - Yagyu Jubei

Yagyu Jubei

Yagyu Jubei is a Ronin Mercenary, originally from the Sun Court. He travelled to  Kagejima to see witness the Moonlight Tournament he'd heard so many tales of. upon experiencing the tournment he vowed to stay until he learned all he could.

Not helping my plan to paint more than I've purchased this year... I BOUGHT MORE THINGS!?!?

Clan Tanchyo team for Ninja All-Stars...

In my defence, they were pretty cheap... Like, some Marketplace seller on Amazon had them and clearly thought of them as "dead stock" and were blowing them out. They were less than HALF what other sellers were selling Ninja All-Stars teams for, and even less than it would cost me to order a team from Ninja Division... and as an extra bonus, these ones are packaged for Ninja All-Stars, which means they come with the cards and stats for Ninja All-Stars! (These miniatures are still available from Ninja Division, but Ninja All-Stars is long out of print and the miniatures have been repurposed for use with Super!Dungeon!Explore!).

It doesn't REALLY matter about being in the original packaging, because, unlike SO MANY OTHER GAMES.... ALL of the rules and stats for ALL of the minituares that were EVER available for the game... were in the core boxed set!? Having the cards that came with this box is nice... but not NECESSARY!!!

Maybe they aren't blowing them out... The game came out in 2016. The price could be the original price... they just still had them kicking around and didn't see any purpose in raising the price (as others have done) because they are "scarce" or "collectables"...

ALSO!?!?! Clan Tanchyo is one of the two clans NOT included in the original base game box set! So...

I'm not sure WHAT prompted me to LOOK on Amazon in the first place...? I was probably looking for somethings else and it popped up as a suggestion as I'd been looking to see what was available the week before...? It's crazy, some sellers are selling individual Ronin (like Jubei, here) for MORE than this entire team cost me!? How could I pass on that!? Ha-ha....

Chibi Dwarves

A pair of weird chibi Dwarves I picked up a few years back. I can't even remember HOW I even found these... I think they were from an online store in... Russia...? and were dirt cheap. I got four bags of ...? LOTS like 50? or 100? there were dwarves, Orcs, Skeletons and Knights and I got a bag of each in each back there are about for or five poses, and then the reverse of each pose, and a few of each pose...? I think it was five different poses and the reverse of each (which makes 10 diferent poses) and then five of each of the poses - making 50... Yeah, that makes more sense.

Originally I think i may have been thinking I might have enough to make a few units for Dragon Rampant? If there was 50 in a bag, that really isn't enough to make Dragon Rampant armies, so I'm guessing I was thinking that if they didn't suck, I'd order MORE of each? (Or maybe it was; If these ever show up and I don't totally get ripped off, I'll order more?!). That's just not going to happen now, so maybe they could be used for a fun Song of Blades and Heroes game...? But, in that case, I probably have way too many.

They are similar in size to the Super Dungeon Explore miniatures. Perhaps I could find a way to integrate them into a game together? Again, Song of Blades and Heroes comes to mind. Though I have noticed that Ninja Division has their OWN small scale miniature skirmish rules to use Super Dungeon Explore miniatures with!?

Somehow these two dwarves stuck on the painting desk when all they others have been squirrelled away in drawers. I also finished these up on Sunday - along with the Rat Ogors...

58 more miniatures to paint in the next 105 days to have painted more than I acquired this year... (assuming I don't BUY any more minatures!?). There are 15 weeks left in the year. If I did four per week (as I've done here) that would be 60!

Space Rats, Melta Guns and Spooky Chibis

A few things rolling off the workbench this week...

Superdeformed (or "chibi") spooky characters from Reaper bones. More experimenting with Contrast paints. How I've been doing a lot of these are undercoating with black gesso, then doing a heavy dry brush with a white gesso, and THEN applying Contrast paints - it keeps the dark recesses DARK - even if the contrast paint is... not-so-dark...

It's fast... I'll say that. And if it means more people get more painted toys on the table, then I'm all for it. I wouldn't mind facing warriors painted this way - better than unpainted grey plastic!! But I don't love the look of them....

Another ganger for the One-Eyed Red Snakes Delaque Necromunda Gang. The figure is a conversion, I think he had a lasgun or autogun originally... and I already had TWO of that figure, so I decided to convert it to have a special weapon of some sort... and I had a Meltagun that seemed like it would be easy to fit in there...

Give then state of my gang in the current campaign, it will be a LONG time before he ever gets recruited...

A few more Mantic Vermyn for John's Chaos cultists Necromunda Gang/Kill Team.

The Gang so far. The old Rat Ogre is the Cult Demagogue (or Cultist Champion in Kill Team). The old Poison Wind Globadier will be used as a Cult Witch. There is a Disciple (Champion) with a Heavy Stubber. I have another ten or so to paint, but I think this would probably be enough to get him started. Among the others are another heavy stubbed and two rats with Flamers (or HEAVY Flamers...?) I got a couple weeks to get the rest finished up.

The gang, so far, might look a little like:

Cult Demagogue (the old Rat Ogre) - Filter Plugs, Auto Pistol, Sword - (Leader/Cunning/Ferocity Skill - 140 credits

Cult Witch (the old Poisoned Wind Globadier) - Sword, Respirator - Psyker - Wyrd Power - 105 credits

Cult Disciple - Heavy Stubber, Respirator, Fighting Knife - (Cunning/Ferocity Skill) - 205 credits

Cult Helot - Autogun, Fighting Knife, Respirator - 80 credits

Cult Helot - Autogun, Fighting Knife, Respirator - 80 credits

Cult Helot - Autogun, Fighting Knife, Respirator - 80 credits

Cult Helot - Auto Pistol, Chainsword, Respirator - 85 credits

Cult Helot - Auto Pistol, Chainsword, Respirator - 85 credits

Cult Helot - Auto Pistol, Sword, Respirator - 80 credits

Cult Helot - Auto Pistol, Fighting Knife, Respirator - 75 credits

Cult Helot - Auto Pistol, Fighting Knife, Respirator, Frag Grenades - 105 credits

1120 credits so far... more than enough to start a Dominion Campaign! Some of those Hellots could just as easily be Disciples - for a few less, but more powerful starting dudes...

Assorted Stuff

An odd and unusual assortment of stuff rolling off the workbench this week...

Not all THAT odd and unusual: A couple of Necromunda figures - a Van Saar Juve and an Escher Ganger.

The Van Saar Juve was a test figure to see if I liked the purple body suit for them. I do. I didn't want to do th standard green as my Cawdor gangers are all in Green. I was planning to do the Orlocks in mostly blue. The Redemptionists are Red. Escher are multi-coloured and Selaqure are black. Yellow and Orange are just a pain in the ass to paint.... so... purple...

Speaking of Purple... an assortment of crates and drums in purple... just for a bit of variety.

A couple of Hired Guns/Bounty Hunters for Necromunda. The guy with the plasma gun will have to be a Bounty Hunter as Hive Scum can only have items that are Rare (7) or lower. The guy with the twin bolt pistols COULD be Hive Scum... but he just looks a little too bad ass... so I guess they'll both be Bounty Hunters!

Still 40K, but not necessarily for Necromunda... an old Psyker figure and a downed Navy pilot. The arms for the Psyker are from Victory Miniatures. The downed pilot, I think, is from the Schaffer's Last Cancers set, and I've seen him listed as a "tank commander"...? Looked more like a pilot to me, so that's how I've painted him and that's what I'm going to use him as...

Three more Mantic Verymn (with GW Ork arms) for John's Chaos Cultist Necromunda gang.

Reaper Bones Chibi Monsters.

Finally a Dwarf from the Lead Adventure Miniatures Dearf Gold Fever Kickstarter. I actually finished this guy months ago... but he's been sitting on the edge of the workbench waiting for a few other dwarves to be finished up to be photographed with... but they're probably not going to be finished any time soon, so I thought I'd slip him into an Odd and Sundry post...

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

More Necromunda minis (Escher and John's Rats are what are at the front of the workbench) and some background to the Bronze Gates: Necromunda Dominion Campaign the I alluded to in my Fall Plans...
