Tuesday was Warhammer Quest night again this week, so I set up another Purge Journey! If this one were successful, they'd be ready to try and take down Lady Annika!
If they were successful...
Finnegan played Brutogg Corpse-Eater and Dagnai Holdenstock and Amanda played Qulathis the Exile and Glaurio ven Alten III.
Qlathis was the first out of the Drop Zone....
Right off, she decided to use the Emblem of Sigmar - which immediately inspired her. Qulathis is often difficult to inspire because her bonus inspiration is so hard to pull off and her damage output when uninspired, she doesn't often get inspiration from killing things... When she does become inspired, she becomes absolutely MURDEROUS!!!
She opened the first door, spotted a cluster of Fell Bats in a garden and killed two of them! The third flew off (and that was the first hostile group finished... they need to destroy or drive off ten to succeed in a Purge Journey)
Brutogg Corpse-Eater was the next to go. The first door he opened revealed a Mysterious Object, so he left that for his little friend Dagnai to investigate...
And then moved to wait by a door that Glaurio was moving to open. Beyond the Door were a pair of undead Ogors of the Kosargi Nightguard! Glaurio blasted a hole in one... but it wasn't enough to take it down!
The two nightguard lumbered forward and dealt serious blows to both Glaurio and Brutogg - SIX damage each.
Brutogg reduced one... but was looking bad for ROUND ONE!!
Glaurio wasn't able to reduce any...
Two characters down to ONE activation die... on the FIRST Round...Yikes!!
At the top of the next round, Qulathis went and turned to shoot at the Nightguard in the doorway. She finished off the injured one and then killed the second!!
But then the Fell Bat returned with two friends and carried Qulathis off!!
And they carried her quite far from the others!
Brutogg came running as fast as he could... not bothering to try and recover from his injuries at the hands of the Kosargi Nightguard...
Glaruio wasn't moving anywhere with his injuries. Luckily he had a Potion of Coagulated Vitality that he was able to chug and that brought him back up to full health!
Dagnai showed up out of nowhere (having dealt with a CRISIS! generated in the Event Phase). The two together managed to cut down two of the Fell Bats and drive the third off again.
So Brutogg explored another room and found a mix of skeletal warriors of the Ulfenwatch, a handful of shambling Deadwalker Zombies AND a Vyrkos Blood-Born vampire leading them!
The Lady Annika and another Kosargi Nightguard showed up and attacked Glaurio... AGAIN he was dealt serious wounds and could only back up and take a shot at the Ogor on his turn (which he, again, blew a large hole in with one of his pistols... but it was not enough to take it down!)
Qulathis stepped into the room and handed off her Potion of Coagulated Vitality to Glaurio...
Then finished off the Kosargi Nightguard and seriously injured Lady Annika!
DAgnai joined in the brawl and finsihed off Lady Annika... and used his harpoon to recover some realmstone treasure from the Mysterious Object.
The smell of Glaurio's blood drew the attention of the Vyrkos Blood-Born... who, luckily, failed to further injure Glaurio!
The Zombies and Ulfenwatch attacked Brutogg and dealt damage faster than he was recovering from it...
Glaurio fled he Vyrkos Blood-Born and chugged the second Potion of Coagulated Vitality... but he must be developing a bit of a resistance to the stuff because it only cleard ONE of his grievous wounds!
The smell of the grievously wounded Ogor drew the Vyrkos Blood-Born away from Glaurio...
... and Brutogg went down amid the crowd of undead that were swarming him...
Qulathis and Dagani were shocked and horrified to see the terrifying brute be dragged down!
Then things went from bad to worse, when ANOTHER patrol of the Ulfenwatch arrived and swarmed Glaurio, critically injuring him and taking him out of action!!
The rest of the Ulfenwatch pressed on to attack Qulathis...
And then, just as they'd gotten rid of the first Vyrkos Blood-Born and its minions, TWO MORE showed up!?
Things were looking PRETTY BAD at this point... Qulathis started talking about cutting their losses and trying to make their way back to the Extraction Point and signalling for the Adamant to retrieve them.
Qulathis darted through the Ulfenwatch...
Killing a few of the stragglers...
And made it to the door beyond which was the Extraction Zone!
Dagnai, however was trapped... Hemmed in by a horde of undead; Vyrkos Blood-Born Vampires... a patrol of the Ulfenwatch... and then a swarm of Corpse Rats showed up!?
He started by chopping down the two vampires...
Then proceeded to finish off the patrol from the Ulfenwatch.... and started cutting his way through the swarm of Corpse Rats...
Qulathis was absolutely STUNNED to see Dagnai saunter out of the building entirely unscathed and not being chased by a horde of the undead...!?
While he was making his way back to the Extraction Zone, he came upon Brutogg, half alive, crawling back towards their exit. He helped the poor brute to his feet...
and then said, "hang on a moment, there just one more thing I need to do..." and then he stole off into a side alley and chopped apart a few Zombies while Brutogg made his way to the extraction zone...
(killing those actually finished off the last hostile group they needed to take out to succeed in this Journey!!)
The three of them were safely picked up byDagnai's ship - the Adamant - and made their way back to Haven!
Whew! That was a CLOSE one...
SUCCESS!
That means they have three victories and the next mission could be a Decapitation Journey to take out Lady Annika, the Thirsting Blade...
(Oh, and Glaurio Ven Alten III did manage to crawl away and eventually made his way back to Haven to rejoin the others, much to their relief!!)
With the end of this mission Dagnai, Qulathis and Glaruio gained a third experience point and thus gained the first level traits in their "Elite Class". Each Character in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City has a class (Loremaster, Stalwart, Blade, and Executioner) and as they gain experience they gain new traits according to their class. They all gained five levels in the first campaign. In Nightwars, Elite classes were introduced. Each of the Classes has two new Elite Classes to chose from when they gain their first new level... and once chosen they have to stick with it. Glaurio Ven Alten III (a Blade) chose Warlord. Qulathis the Exile (and Executioner) chose Shadowstalker, and Dagnai Holdenstock (a Stalwart) chose Maximal!
