Spearhead - The Contagion Returns

Once again Finnegan bailed on us to do... Schoolwork... (NERD!)

So instead of Warhammer Quest, Amanda and I played Warhammer Age of Sigmar; Spearhead on Tuesday evening!

Amanda played the Sylvaneth Bitterbark Copse again and I returned with the Maggotkin of Nurgle Bleak Host...

In this battle, the Maggotkin took the initiative. The Putrid blightkings surged to the left, trying to make a flanking maneuver around the Sylvaneth's right.

The Plagubearers followed off after the Pusgoyle Blightlord who swung right to make their way around the Sylvaneth left. The Spoilpox Scrivener got a little preoccupied with their tallying wasn't able to keep up and fell behind - leaving them dangerously exposed...

The Sylvaneth took advantage of this and sent the Kurnothi after the daemonic leader of the Nurgle forces...

The Treelord stomped the Plaguebearers into gory, disgusting pulp that tainted the ground for years to follow...

The Pusgoyle Blightlord and the Putrid Blightkings both swung toward the center and caught the Branchwych leading the Sylvaneth and a unit of Tree-Revenants in a pincer attack...

the Branchwych fell and the Tree-revenants were nearly all cut to peices...

The remaining Tree-Revenants slipped through the spirit pathways, devastated by the loss of their leader, were determined to exact some vengeance against the servants of the Plaguefather!

The Sylvaneth swarmed the Spoilpox Scrivener... but despite it's gangly, awkward appearance, it turned out to be a fairly devious opponent that was much harder to kill than one might imagine!

The Treelord returned to the center of hte batlefield to deal some serious blows to the Putrid Blightkings before slipping through the spirit-pathways to escape before the Pusgoyle Blightlord could join the melee.

the battle off in the corner dragged on...

Meanwhile the Putrid Blightkings and the Pusgoyle Blight lord chased down the Treelord...

If that weren't bad enough... MORE plaguebearers arrived on the battlefield...

As did another Pussgoyle Blightlord... who seemed like he might come to the Spoilpox Scrivener's aid... but did not...

Loyalties among the servants of the fell powers of chaos are fickle and they tend to hold nasty grudges for the smallest of slights... while sometimes these are resolved with violence... sometimes they let their enemies take care of their petty rivalries by letting a die rather than coming to their aid...

After some bitter and brutal combat... the servants of Nurgle felled the mighty Treelord...

Finally, without the aid of the Pusgoyle Blightlord, the Spoilpox Scrivener was killed.

The Kurnoth Hunters returned to the center of the battlefield and were joined by some Tree-Revenant reinforcements!

The Tree-Revenants attacked the Plaguebearers.

But the plaguebearers were nasty fighter and deal devastating blows to the Tree-Revenants.

There was little else the Sylvaneth could do at this point and a general retreat was called...

So... the Sylvaneth lost to the Maggotkin of Nurgle again... I ended with 24 Victory Points and Amanda had 15... Oof!

The Maggotkin are pretty brutal. Mind you I had some really lucky rolls and just critical moments - particularly in my ward saves, which kept the Spoilpox Scrivener alive far longer than he really should have been - which tied up the Kurnoth and Tree-Revenants for turns, which kept them from going out and scoring points elsewhere!

In other Age of Sigmar related hobby news... work continues on the Great Unclean One and... theoretically I still have elements of the Helsmiths of Hashut... AND the Soulblight Gravelords... AND some more Nighthaunts (and assorted other Age of Sigmar models!) - all on the workbench. I should really focus on the Great Unclean One to make sure it's done (but I do have a whole month before Tanksgiving...).

I feel like maybe I should really get another Spearhead done though, because Amanda isn't going to find continually losing to the Nurgle force fun for long... I DID see that the Dreadscythe Harridans were back in stock on the Warhammer website... so hopefully that means the backordered box I asked the Dragon's Den to get in for me will arrive soon, and those will take very little time to paint up!

I should REALLY finish up the Soulblight Gravelords as well - they are over half done!
