For All Those Who Seek Redemption

As the Bronze Gates kept expanding and growing, it was only time before gangs from other houses arrived. A new gang from House Cawdor took up residence in Durango Pipe and started calling themselves the "Moors". The One-Eyed Red Snakes - who have been particularly down on their luck, thought this might be their chance to "prove" themselves, strike while they are still "weak" and just getting themselves established. They thought they'd just waltz right in to Durango Pipe and wreck one of their Reliquaries - just to show them that House Delaque is not one to be messed with!

My friend Orion came by on Sunday evening to have a go at Necromunda. He's been thinking of picking up the new Necromunda: Dark Uprising box and I suggested he come over and try it out with some of my toys.

The Bronze Gates Campaign has fizzled out as a Dominion Campaign, but I've decided to keep it going - as a setting for a Narrative Campaign! I'm not going to bother too much about tracking credits, and add gang members to rosters as required (sort of like in Kill Team) I WILL continue to keep track of experience (because it is fun to watch characters grow and get better!) and the credit value of each gang member and gang ratings (for determining how many Gang Tactic cards players get for scenarios). Standing within the campaign will be based on Reputation and the number of areas controlled.

I wasn't totally as prepared as I'd liked to have been and ended up playing a scenario I kind of just pulled out of my ass at the last moment, it was a bit of a mash-up of the Border Dispute and, I think, Sabotage scenarios...?

The Moors had a smaller, random starting crew, but all the others available could arrive as reinforcements, starting at the end of turn one! The Snakes had to wreck Cawdor's Gang Reliquary.

Unfortunately I let him place his shrine ANYWHERE and so he tucked it in a dead-end tunnel at the edge of the table furthest from my deployment zone... so I'd have to fight through his WHOLE DAMNED GANG to get to it... The last being the Cawdor Champion - Henry - who was stuck behind some heavy cover and enjoying a rather nice field of fire/bottlenecking kill zone.

I thought maybe things might turn out okay when Orion started rolling like this, right off the hop... but the ill luck didn't last... or maybe it was just that MY luck was WORSE!

Couple of Juve trying to flank around Henry's Kill Zone.

My gang all bunching up in what little cover they could get from Henry's withering fire.

Another team of gangers trying to sneak up the other flank.

Popped some smoke and tried to make a dash down the hall...

It was a HUGE gamble - if that smoke dissipated before they got into contact with the ganger at the end of the hall, they'd be mowed down by Henry's Heavy Stubber.

The Smoke dissipated and they were mowed down by Henry's Heavy Stubber...

Elsewhere Juves trying to rush a downed ganger to give them a Coup De Gras.... (they bled out before the Juve got there).

Trinitatus and Artifex pinned by fire coming from different directions.

More Cawdor reinforcements showing up.

One of the three - Mutatio - made it to the end of the corridor and into contact with the Cawdor ganger there.

Unfortunately there were MORE Cawdor Gangers there and he quickly found himself outnumbered... and that is terrible position to be in!

Trinitatus and two other gangers try to rush Henry's position while he was clearing a jam/reloading...

Cawdor reinforcements show up and finish off Delaqu gangers downed by Henry's fire.

Artifex battling Rufus who arrived as a reinforcement.

One of the Neos attacking Rufus from behind.

and that's where I kind of stopped taking pictures... ?

Two more Cawdor reinforcements joined in this melee - it was a mess. Eventually Artifex took down Rufus and the other two Cawdor gangers failed Nerve Tests.

Enough of the others trying to rush Henry's position that the gang was just about entirely wiped out. I ended with only Artifex still on the table. He voluntarily bottled and fled.

Things did not go well for the One-Eyed Red Snakes... Once they'd all regrouped back at The Snake Pit and took stock - HALF of the gang was so seriously injured they'd need considerable time to recuperate (Trinitatis, Rutubulum, Mutatio, Oraculum, and Neo866753 are all "In Recovery") and Oraculum had lost an eye! Neo65395 was also missing and presumed captured by the Cawdor gangers!

Cawdor survived the assault by House Delaque, but didn't escape without injury... Rufus, one of the gangs champions arm was severely mangled by Artifex's Power Sword and he'll never be able to swing his chainsword the same again (-1 WS). Muriel suffered a severe abdominal wound that will likely leave her sickly and weak until the end of her days (-1T!). Meredith and Bantu were severely injured enough that they will have to sit out the next battle... Surviving the assault, however, has given the Moors a bit of a reputation as a gang not to be fucked with...

House Delaque will not suffer this slight at the hands of these upstart Cawdor peasants... They will have their revenge!

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

I have a half dozen other posts in the works... There are new gang posts for The One-Eyed Red Snakes (House Delaque), Jezebel's Crusade (House Cawdor/Redemptionists), and the Crimson Wave (House Escher) gangs - I just posted the one for the Durango Pipe Moors. And, since I played ANOTHER Game last night, I'll have another report to work on as well... plus a lot of stuff has been rolling off the workbench the last few days.

Durango Pipe Moors - a House Cawdor Gang

I recently finished up three more Cawdor Gangers and rebased the rest of them, so I thought it time to do and updated post about the whole gang...

It was only a matter of time before Cawdor and the Cult of Redemption showed it's face in the Bronze Gates. A gang has taken up residence in Durango Pipe and are calling themselves the "Moors"

The Durango Pipe Moors.

Willem Campbell - Leader
Mesh Armour, Hand Flamer, Chainsword, Bolt Gun
Skills: Commanding Presence, Rain of Blows
290 credits.

The leader of the gang; Willem Campbell - a dour firebrand who leads from the front!

The Cult of Redemption, Willem is certain, are chosen of The Emperor who fight the forces of Darkness and Chaos in a decisive struggle for the future of mankind. In saving the Bronze Gates from Corruption, Willem hopes to save their pious virtues as well, and make the Underhive an “Oasis of Puritanism”—chaste, austere, free from the taint of Mutants, Psykers, and Heretics.

(What the miniature is carrying is actually an Inferno Pistol - basically a Melta Pistol. I got this figure before I even had Necromuda: Underhive and it was missing the weapon in that hand - so I went through the bits box and found the Inferno Pistol, and thought it looked really bad ass so I put that in his hand... Of course when I first picked up Necromunda, Inferno Pistols weren't an option, but it kind of looked like a Hand Flamer, so I went with that - and, thematically, it kind of fit for a Cawdor Gang Leader. Inferno Pistols ARE now available in the Book of Judgement... but they're super rare and very expensive... and I just figured continuing to call it a Hand Flamer works best... so... HAND FLAMER!)

Three Champions; Hinton, Rufus, and Henry

Hinton - Champion
Mesh Armour, Bolt Gun, Laspistol, Power Sword, Incendiary Charges
Skills: Step Aside
255 Credits
Hive City psychopath that's come down to the Underhive to kill and cause suffering, giving only lip-service to it being in the name of The Emperor and the Cult of Redemption. Previously worked as a Dentist.

Henry - Champion
Flak Armour, Heavy Stubber, Stub Gun
Skills: Head Butt
230 credits
Henry is the Gang Heavy... He loves filling a room with lead and the rapid, staccato beat of his instrument of death and destruction.

Rufus - Champion
Flak Armour, Bolt Gun, Autopistol, Chainsword,
Skills: Rain of Blows
185 Credits
Rufus is Willem's lieutenant. He tries to be a voice of reason within a gang that, for the most part, fails to see any reason...

Lex, Dewey, and Liam

Lex - Ganger
Flak Armour, Lasgun, Fighting Knife, Frag Grenades
105 credits

Liam - Ganger
Flak Armour, Shotgun (Solid and Scatter ammo), Fighting Knife
95 credits

Brothers Liam and Lex deadly in combat, if they can ever stop arguing. It is very likely possible that the  only time they DO stop arguing is when they are in combat - as often with each other, as with members of another gang.... but threaten them or their kin and they are ten times more savage protecting their own.

Dewey - Ganger
Flak Armour, Autogun, Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
80 credits
Dewey learned to read books - which makes him an odd one. Most gangers never learn to read much more than is necessary to understand common signage - this is largely because, in House Cawdor at least, the only books worth learning' anything from are the Book of Redemption and the Imperial Creed - and all a ganger needs to learn from them is what's taught them through the prayers the preachers lead and the sermons they preach at them. All this book learnin' has caused Dewey to question some of the things the Preachers say and even some of the writings in the Book of Redemption... but he would never voice these questions out loud as he knows well it would mean heresy and purification though FLAME! He suspects Rufus to be a kindred spirit, with his calm reasonable demeanour,

Meredith, Muriel, Jonesy, and Simon

Muriel - Ganger
Flak Armour, Lasgun, Fighting Knife
75 credits

Meredith - Ganger
Flak Armour, Autogun, Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
80 credits

Muriel and Meredith, both are dutiful adherents of the Cult of Redemption. Their only desire is to purge the sins of others through the spilling of their blood!

Simon - Ganger
Flak Armour, Lasgun, Fighting Knife, Frag Grenades
105 credits

Jonesy - Ganger
Flak Armour, Shotgun (Solid and Scatter ammo), Fighting Knife
95 credits

Simon and Jonesy just didn't want to work in the factorum or scrounge through waste heaps for recyclables and holy relics. They are devout, to be sure, but are far more pragmatic than the rest of the gang.

Ernie, Bantu, Gib, and Babe

Bantu - Ganger
Flak Armour, Reclaimed Autogun, Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
75 credits

Ernie - Ganger
Flak Armour, Shotgun (Solid and Scatter ammo), Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
80 credits

Bantu and Ernie are a vengeful pair. They have bonded together though shared loss and desire for revenge - both lost cherished loved ones to raids by mutant underhive gangers. They live for the hunt and will stop at nothing to purge the hive of mutants and avenge the loss of their loved ones.

Gib - Ganger
Flak Armour, Lasgun, Fighting Knife, Frag Grenades
105 credits

Babe - Ganger
Flak Armour, Lasgun, Fighting Knife, Frag Grenades
105 credits

Babe and Gib are pious followers of the Imperial Creed. They have know each other since they were young lads and served as alter boys at the local basilica. Their devotion to their brothers and sisters of the gang and House Cawdor are second only to their devotion to the Emperor. Both can often be heard singing hymns in the middle of combat.

Junior, Travers, Leeroy, and Janet  - the youngest and newest members of the gang.

Junior - Juve
Stub Gun, Las Pistol
40 Credits.

Junior - his actual name is Luther, but everyone calls him junior on account of him being the younger brother of Liam and Lex. He chafes at the handle and yearns for action to prove himself, but Lex and Liam are VERY protective of their younger brother and try to always keep him out of harms way - which makes it extremely difficult for young Luther to earn any street cred and shed his moniker and become a full gang member in his own right.

Janet - Juve
Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
45 Credits

Janet is Rufus' kid sister and he is very protective of her.

Leeroy - Juve
Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
45 Credits

Leeroy's got something to prove - he's a small guy with a big chip on his shoulder.

Travers - Juve
Stub Gun, Fighting Knife
45 Credits

Travers is somewhat of an egalitarian and true follower of the Creed - all are equals under the Emperor. He gets particularly defensive when he and his fellow Juve are treated poorly by the rest of the gang...

All together that would be 2135 credits worth of gang… I really have enough here for TWO gangs... Well... two STARTING gangs at least...

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

I have a couple more posts in the works for The One-Eyed Red Snakes (House Delaque), Jezebel's Crusade (House Cawdor/Redemptionists), and the Crimson Wave (House Escher) gangs... as well as a game report from last week... and now I need to start one for last night's game... and then there's all the stuff rolling off the workbench (mostly Battlefleet Gothic stuff!?).

So... one of those...

Tallarn Taurox (and Micro-Mini Shadowsword!)

I... I'm not sure I could explain the convoluted thought process that brought this onto the table to be finished. It could probably be summed up in two words: Squirrel Brain. (If a few more words were allowed: Highly Caffeinated Squirrel on Crystal Meth Brain...)

Regardless, I present to you: The Tallarn Taurox

I've used the wheeled suspension kit from Victoria Miniatures because... well... the track set just looks dumb...

The numbers on the front (500) are for the 5th company commander (5 = company, 0 = Headquarters Troop, 0 = Commander)

(Although, I saw one with track painted up to use as an Enforcer Vehicle for Necromunda and I started to think it didn't look THAT bad...)

I had originally meant to do the turret crew all swaddled up in a keffiyeh/shemagh looking out through binoculars... but then had a spare female head and thought I could just have the scarf around her shoulder so, hopefully, people could tell it was a women... Now I kind of wish I'd gone with the original plan - that head looks a little small for the body... I guess she could have some body armour bulking her up...? I may go back and change that... or I may not, because I'm lazy like that (feh, it's DONE! Move on to something that ISN'T yet painted!!!)

Back end - more stowage and the spread tire. If I did it right, the letters on the back should say "Khan" - because it's the commanders vehicle. The tire is also from Victoria Miniatures and most of the stowage is from a 1/35 Tamiya kit!

My plan for this was to ferry around a Company Commander for a Tallarn Outrider detachment... which currently only contains two squads of five roughriders and a single Scout Sentinel. Maybe I could throw the Sniper Special Weapon Section in there - seems like snipers are attached to reconnaissance units... I do, currently have enough that I could expand that out to THREE squads of TEN Roughriders, and Three sentinels - when I get around to assembling and painting the rest!

I've wanted to do an entire Sentinel Squadron ever since reading Lucien Soulban's Desert Raiders. There was a fun character that commanded the Reconnaissance/Sentinel Squadron. Unfortunately, while Marines can do just about anything with their wide variety of officer/HQ types - on foot, in terminator armour, with jet packs, on bikes, etc, etc... you can't put an Company Commander in a Sentinel (even though, according to the fluff, that is exactly what they do!). I'm not sure which is more silly - a Company Commander on foot leading a reconnaissance unit... or a TANK Commander leading a reconnaissance unit!? (even though Leman Russ tanks are FASTER than Sentinels!? In fact EVERY vehicle in the Imperial Guard arsenal are faster than their "Fast Attack" Reconaissance vehicles!? Someone explain THAT one to me!?)

Anyway, I liked the look of the Taurox - at least, with the wheels - I figure this could be kitted out as a Command version (although, now that I think about it, it SHOULD have had some extra radio antennae... darnit - maybe I could still add something - I'm thinking like the antenna that were on German command halftracks in the desert).

Also...

"Epic" scaled Shadowsword.

BIG and little

I don't have a LOT of stuff for the Imperial Guard painted just yet... I do have a few more tanks to paint up, and these few I may or may not repaint (I painted them in an older, temperate scheme - before I'd decided to do the Epic stuff as Tallarn), and a small number of infantry from Vanguard miniatures. People just want too damned much for the old plastic Imperial Guard miniatures (and Vanguard makes Desert Warriors... so I have Tallarn in TWO scales!). I do also have a PILE of space Marines and a few Imperial Titans...

I need to just shelve these, though, and not even think about them until next year... I DO want to try playing Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse with them at some point, though! But I need to focus my painting and get the rest of the Necromunda and Hellboy stuff painted.

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

Man, I am out of control... Usually I write ONE blog post at a time - compose new blog, add in the photos, add in some text, post... but I've stalled on writing bunch lately and so I have eight (EIGHT!) drafts currently, and I don't even know when I'm going to get around to finish those and I just keep on painting and rebasing?! I have a draft of a post about October and November's games (That will get posted at the end of the month), a Necromunda game report from Sunday, Posts about four different gangs that have all been rebased and snazzed up, and one about 54mm miniatures... I even DELETED a few posts recently because... well... they just sat for so long, they no longer seemed relevant enough to bother finishing!?

Next...? Hopefully one of those mentioned above... but I've also got a PILE of half to almost-done minis on my painting desk, including, but not limited to an Ambul Hulk and two Borewyrm Infestations, three Tallarn Mortar teams, an entire Van Saar gang, MORE Escher gangers, Scavvies, Enforcers, Imperial Fist Scouts, and a wild array of assorted other things - mostly relating to the Warhammer 40K universe...

Oh, and I just traded a pile of Imperial Guard I'm never going to use for a half dozen or so Battlefleet Gothic Chaos Cruisers!? Most of them are broken, but I should be able to get four serviceable ones out of the lot by taking bits from the more busted up one and adding or replacing bits on the less busted up ones... and there are three destroyer/escort type ships... so... they're a temptation...

A Few New Things for 40K/Necromunda

These are a few things I've finished up over the last few days (or, in one case, weeks) that I haven't gotten to posting yet...

This is an objective marker for 40K. I thought I'd jazz up my objective markers a bit as tokens or a pile of barrels are getting a bit boring...

What's the story here? Why is this wounded Vox-Caster Operator an objective?

Gang reliquary from Necromunda and another objective marker with a reliquary.

I hav a handfull of other Objective Markers on the go - mostly just making use of spare 40mm bases I have from Imperialis, Mechanicus and Mortis zone base sets.

Astropath from Victoria Miniatures. I just LOVE this figure. So much more dynamic than other Astropath figures I have. Can't wait to use her in some sort of narrative Kill Team or necromunda scenario... or Wrath & Glory when I get that going again!

Three more Cawdor gangers. They came in a lot of minis that were missing guns and hands or barrels and such - so these are all slight conversions.

Escape pods from the Kill Team: Rogue Trader box. Mostly used contrast paints to knock these out quickly. They look... not terrible...? Better than not being painted at all!

Not newly painted, but new bases... I decided to rebase my chaos stuff - starting with the Chaos Space Marines. The reason to do these was mostly because I thought I'd look nice having the Chaos Cultists all on fancy bases to match the rest of the Necromunda gangs... I started with these guys because I have LOADS of the 32mm bases, but ran out of 25mm bases again.

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

I have a few posts on the go with all-new pics of the Escher, Delaque, Cawdor, and Remptionist gangs. They're taking a bit longer than expected, because I decided to write a bit of fluff for each of the gangers...

I also got started on some VanSaar gangers and other assorted 40K/Blackstone Fortress minis...

Also, Sunday evening, Orion came over to try out Necromunda, so I should have a short report of that game at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Necromunda Re-Basing Project: Part the Second

Instead of painting new figures this past week, I've mostly continued re-basing of all the existing Necromunda figures...

The group for this week...

Well... most of them...

Okay I did finish off two totally new minis... another ganger and a miniature I thought Amanda could use as her Rogue Doc Hanger on: Doc Sanders. The Doc Sanders is, I think, a Shadowrun miniature...? the medical kit came from my bitz box - it think it was originally from a Tempestus medic?)

Mechanicus! We have an Explorator - Jer-Ohm (from Lead Adventure Astropolis), a couple of Servitors and a very youthful adept (also from Lead Adventure Astropolis). Explorators are Cult Mechanicus tech priests

Two of the Spyrers - Abraham Ran Lo and Constance Helmawr (yes, of THOSE Helmawrs... she's officially 3416th in line of succession, though... so...).

A pair of Scavvies - Exvus and Rakkr - a right nasty pair, these two - know to eat the faces off of their victims in hopes that it might make them pretty... it doesn't seem to be working (Exvus is an old Coppelstone grenadier model, and Rakkr is an old citadel figure).

A yet-to-be-names Navigator and his astomech servitor RJ-D2 (there is actually a brain of an older navigator entombed in that bucket of bolts, whose body finally failed her after nearly two centuries of piloting void ships through the immaterium - it is armoured and sealed against all manor of hazards as well as the void!)

(there was a kid I went to school with named RJ. He was kind of short. I always imagined if he were a Robot he would be called RJ-D2 - this miniature is named in his honour)

Bounty Hunter Janis and Ratling Slopper Marty McNesbitt - who prides himself on knowing 32 different ways to deep fry corpse starch!

A pair of Enforcers, touched up a bit and re-based (the basic blue they used to be was a bit... dull...). I haven't named any of the enforcers yet, but I am going to need a Eva Suli (probably not one of these uniformed enforcers... She's the bad-ass Intelligencer with Divisio Integritas from Rachel Harrison's contribution to the Underhive collection of short stories I just finished up... It's a great collection, I highly recommend it for Necromunda inspiration!)

Rogue Trader? (mini from Hasslefree). I feel like maybe I should have done the sword as a Power Sword! You know he'd totally got a plasma pistol tucked away in that jacket somewhere...

The man, the myth, the legend: Karloth Valois! I put him on a 40mm base to really bling it up, as befits a rock-star necromancer like Valois.

Totally did his name in creepy letters on the back...

A couple of Bounty Hunter/Mercenary types. The one in Red on the larger base is the leader - Marcus - no one knows quite where he came from. Some rumours suggest that he, and indeed many of the others on his crew are deserters from off-world guard regiments that were brought here to help contain the threat of the alien cult that overran Hive Secondus. The one in green is named Simms.

Van Sarr Juve named Skeeter - armed with both stub gun AND Autopistol - he is ready for ANY occasion.

Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:

The Necromunda re-basing project rages on! I have finished the Delaque, Escher, and Redemptionist gangs - just need to finish writing up the posts (trying to add in a bit more fluff about the gangs and gangers)
